본 연구의 최종 목표는 건설 프로젝트의 기획에서 시공 단계에 이르는 설계 및 엔지니어링 프로세스에서 다양한 참여 주체들이 효과적으로 3차원 기반의 설계 및 엔지니어링 정보(BIM)를 생성, 공유 및 관리할 수 있게 하기 위한 가상건설 체계 및 시스템 개발임.

■ Establishing Integrated civil structure design system using virtual construction method
We have constructed a structural design system for civil engineers, which is able to create optimal design using the libraries of engineering structure, structural analysis models and BIM-based CAD synergistically thanks to CPLM. Moreover, we have developed the interface prototype program for exchanging data between 3D modeling applications and structural analysis applications. Besides, we have executed structural analysis and design using each variable extracted from 3D object models. It helps allow an engineer to evaluate stability of structure through the results of structural analysis by carrying a design checking module with an interface program. Additionally, we have comprised a prototype of a smart object-based model by giving a model information to quickly accomplish a change of design. We develope this structural design application for the conceptual design and detailed design of the prototype to deepen the functionality of the system and increase the applicability. For proving the legitimacy and utilizability of this system, we do Test-bed for Worldcup bridge in construction
■ Establishing automated drawing system using virtual construction method
The technical effect is that the system produces foundations to improve international competitiveness of design process by calculating drawings using 3D model information. Also, it includes parametric technology that makes the components of each model independent parent and child, and connects them as mutually related structures. The technology modifies geometric elements, and then automatically modifies many components associated with them, and extracts modeling data changed depends on their conditions.
Second, the economic effect is to save cost and time. The system minimizes errors like design change by making use of consistent model information in their lifecycle throughout design, construction, and maintenance. In addition, the automatic technology can change drawing automatically by modifying 3D modeling. The result, it makes possible to reduce construction cost and period.
Therefore, the automatic drawing system improves construction productivity and advanced design techniques.
■ Development of Integrated construction structure design system using virtual construction method
The integrated construction structure design system(VA-STRUCTURES) of managing the design information between the unit business of planning (schematic design / design development / construction document) of the building construction design efficiently was developed. The integrated building construction design system performs the information exchange with the interest worlds including the architectural design / estimate, and etc. through the link with the architecture CPLM efficiently. And the construction document automation system which automates the structural detail design and operation modeling in order to enhance the efficiency of structural construction document caused by the business which was repetitive and labor-intensive was developed. The construction document automation system classified into the steel structure and reinforced concrete structure according to the structure type and developed. In the case of the steel structure, by applying the newest design criteria (KBC2009) and principle of normalizing to the joining shape frequently used in the general building, the library D/B was built. And the steel connection part design and modeling automation system (ACS : Auto Connection System) which utilized this in BIM Tool and can produce the junction model the automatic was developed.In the case of the reinforced concrete structure, the reinforced concrete rebar placing design and modeling automation system (ARPS : Automatic Reinforcement Placement System) which calculated automatically (column / beam / slab, and etc) reinforcement placement information by structural member from the design result of the commercial structural analysis tool and can produce the reinforced concrete rebar placing model of the relevant member in BIM Tool automatically was developed. The Test Bed was performed against 'Library of Chungwoon University' project which is built by applying the development system and the adaptability of the development system and efficiency was verified and the development system was supplemented.
■ Developing automated MEP design system
The results of this research through 5 years are as follows.
We went on BIM-based libraries complement/expand after the 3rd year, developed module that extracts automatically heating and cooling calculation input data, from the BIM data of gbXML format exported. Also, we conducted S University Dormitory(3rd year research) and ChungWoon University Library Building(5th year research) for system improvement through Test-Bed achievement. Therefore, we can proceed heating cooling load calculation, equipment capacity computation, drawing creation, and data transmission and evaluation of calculating performance with MEP modelling and heating cooling load prediction program.
■ Developing Estimating automated system based on construction method
Continuous development of automated cost estimating system based on construction methods was performed from developing of estimation process model to Test-bed and system supplementations for a commercialization. Also developing of P-M-C-A based BIM based estimation guideline and BQI system that for quantitative evaluation has provided outline that planning, management, measuring of BIM based estimation. Meanwhile, developing of automated cost estimating system for civil engineering was performed separately due to different process.
2. Development of Construction Technology & Process Simulation System using Virtual Reality Technique
■ Development of VR-based Planning Simulation System
In this study, a simulation system has been developed for applying the 3D spatial object concept to effectively carry out planning step tasks and for playing the guideline role of the following design step.
The VR-based planning simulation system that can be integrated with CPLM allows the project information sharing with participants from other partners. The project owner requirements and major regulations can be reviewed by using the space object information generated at the planning step and the project requirements and constraints. In addition, the system allows the output and review of rough construction cost by using the material system DB, and similar case DB and spatial information. The spatial planning can be adjusted through the feedback from the contents reviewed, which can be generated into report as a guideline for the project owner briefing and the basic design step. In addition, Revit add-on module has been developed to allow the reuse of the construction model planning through the system during the basic design step.
■ Development of VR-based Civil Engineering & Construction Simulation System
In this study, VR-based construction process technology simulation system has been developed into a web-based integrated system for the construction life-cycle of civil engineering facilities from the planning step to the construction completion step. For the use of this system according to each implementation step, major functions from various systems that were developed as prototypes were deduced to establish an integrated simulation system. In addition, the operation based on its integration with CPLM system allows information sharing with participants from other partners. It has been developed to allow information sharing among different users through the upload onto CPLM the alternatives comparison result and risk analysis result to allow effective use of information on civil engineering project.
■ Development of VR-based Construction Process Simulation System
The construction process simulation system has been developed for the purpose of supporting the process planning tasks in the construction process step in VR environment, and finding issues and analyzing risks through the simulation of construction process.
For the purpose of providing data and attribute values related to the construction planning (construction equipment planning) aspect, object library was developed first for the tower crane. The WBS generation module has been developed for auto-generation of the basic process for integration of 3D modeling and project process information, and the task time per task of the basic process table generated by the WBS Generator can be completed by analyzing the task time per process based on the designation of process forecast variable. Alternative process analysis simulation module has been developed to define, compare and analyze two independent process simulations. In addition, it has been developed to perform pre-existing condition & process management under BIM environment and allow integrated management of information generated during the construction step through the integration of construction cost along with 3D object and process table by using the construction process management system total construction process simulator.
3. Practical research and development for the Construction Project Life-cycle Management (CPLM)
■ Practical Research and Develop CPLM system for architectural project
To develop and deliver collaborative environment for BIM-based construction project's effective performance, Architectural CPLM was developed from PLM/PDM concept. Based on this, we studied related concepts/systems, designed system, developed system and verified through the test bed. Architectural CPLM system contains Session concept, BIM Planning, BISC concept/process, ways to use historical information, collaborative support system, conjunction with research group's architectural sector, operation systems. Twice(S dormitory, C Main Library) over the test result in terms of functionality and usability, it is expected that test contribute to operate BIM based project effectively.
■ Practical Research and Development of CPLM system for civil project
Developing Civil Engineering CPLM is promoted for collaboration of Project Management. The implementations of the study are as follow. CPLM system requirements analysis and architecture design, CPLM system development, framework development, CPLM system's practical study and commercialization.
It is verified from 2 tests(G bridge, W bridge), CPLM system was complementary and commercial versions were completed. From the test results, CPLM will contribute civil Engineering BIM project to increase efficiency. Also, recycling template data, growing base of neutral model and adding various interfaces were expected to require.
■ Developing OR-IFC Server
Developing OR-IFC Server is responsible fro research in the field for information standards and compatibility in Virual Construction Research Team. OR-IFC server was developed and IDM-related research was conducted. developed OR-IFC Server in this research, consists of IFC converter, Importer, Exporter. It can be used regardless of IFC schema changes, and developed system to reduce file size up to 99%. IDM sector also defined IDM, and developed additional XPPM software.
■ Complete Construction/Civil Engineering 3D Design(BIM Application) Guideline
Architecture/Civil Engineering 3-dimension design(BIM apply) Guideline was for providing BIM based design. Draft for 1st~3rd year, specialized agencies' verification and complementary for 4th year, final test bed study and final writing were conducted in order. During Research, Increasing demand for process how to apply from the spread of the application of BIM, Architectural Guideline reflects the BIM design process. By treating real-world examples and test bed, Civil Engineering Guideline proposed as available references in the future BIM-based civil engineering projects.
■ Develop strategy for overseas expansion
Through the BIM overseas case analysis and Virtual Construction system's contents, we developed a strategy for overseas expansion.
