Expected Contribution
[The Foundation of Marine Culture and Tourism]
▪ Base expansion and role of marine leisure sports in Gangwon Province East Coast.
▪ Potential establishment of model for cultivating and activating specialized talents in the Gangwon East Coast region.
▪ Distributed alternative products from inland tourism to marine leisure sports tourism through experiential marketing.
▪ Opportunity to create a marine leisure as a growth engine for the Gangwon East Coast and to expand space for leisure participation.
▪ Synergies among health, community and youth-leading functions and city brand synergy.
▪ Reduce mutual competitiveness through cooperation system between Yeongdong and Youngbuk region.
▪ Contributing to the advancement of the industrial structure through the development of the 6th industry tourism community business model based on the creative economy in the traditional industrial structure in the fishing village.
▪ In the industrial structure centered on the primary industry, creation of new jobs and increase of added value by the blending of secondary industry and tertiary industry.
▪ Contributing to the youth-centered population influx of social-economic-centered business models and building a regional economic circulation system.
[Sustainable Conservation and Development of Coasts]
○ Coastal Environment Management
▪ Securing shoreline change monitoring technique and coastal current and suspended sediments measurement techniques.
▪ Understanding the changes in the topographic characteristics of the beach due to sediment erosion / sedimentation.
▪ Contributing to establishment of measures for coastal environment utilization and conservation in response to climate / marine environmental changes.
▪ Establishment of effective management measures and utilizing budget effectively by understanding the characteristics and mechanisms of coastal change.
▪ Utilizing the provided application methods for continuous nature tourism resources.
▪ Human resources training for coastal environment management.
○ Regional Marine Industry Development
▪ Development of bio-diesel and bio-ethanol bio-energy production processes from sewage sludge, which is waste, is a rarely attempted study.
▪ Marine dumping by converting forbidden sewage sludge into bio-energy, can contribute to the conservation of the marine environment and the prevention of global warming, as well as actively cope with carbon emissions trading.
▪ PhD candidate and one Master's degree student participate in the research. They are expected to grow into key players in the bio-energy industry through in-depth research into bio-energy, particularly biodiesel production using sewage sludge.
▪ Gangwon is expected to be able to handle an energy belt along with the LNG base and wind power generation plant established in Yeongdong area. In order to do this, universities must produce relevant talent and provide technical support. This project will be a good opportunity to meet these regional needs.
[Promoting the Welfare of Fishing Villages and Fishermen]
○ Technology Development (Technology related to aquaculture, deep sea water utilization technology, etc.)
▪ To inform researchers about the efficacy of coffee, soybean, squid and microalgae byproducts in feedstock or bioactive materials, and to provide useful information to researchers and encourage research investment.
▪ The use of inexpensive raw materials makes it possible to produce economical formulated feeds, and by-products will contribute to future-oriented and environmentally friendly industries.
▪ Materialization of raw materials for food, medicine, and cosmetics is produced by using non-chemical ginseng production technology using deep sea water.

○ Development of East Coast Ocean Biotechnology Material (functional food, cosmetics industry)
▪ The development of new materials derived from natural materials will be able to secure a bridgehead not only in Korea but also in the world market through the uniqueness and scarcity value of the products. It will be utilized in the development of new technologies that actively cope with the market demand and social demand. It is anticipated that new markets of at least 10 billion won including the fisheries industry will be possible.
▪ By transferring the technology of hatching enzyme separation, purification and mass production process to the production enterprises of Yeongdong, Gangwon-do, and medical cosmetics production companies, we can expect to create jobs and increase sales in the region through the development of competitive products. It is expected that it will contribute to activation of regional economy by the effect of export activation and import substitution.
▪ Contributing to the revitalization of the cosmetics industry by using natural products and discovering functional bio-marine biotechnology through the implementation of this research project can be applied to health functional foods, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, quasi-drugs, etc., thus is expected to be a starting point for the development of future-oriented high-tech industries.
▪ Research on structure and immune enhancement of agarum cribrosum seaweed among seaweeds, and research on the value of seaweeds as a material for industry is expected to contribute to the foundation of research on seaweed shortage. In addition, the results obtained through the research will be used as basic data for the seaweed-related industries, and as a result, the related industries can be grown and activated.
▪ Functional polysaccharide material obtained through extraction of natural materials is very well suited to the needs of consumers in recent years, and it will meet the needs of the market and positively affect various industries such as functional foods, medicines and functional cosmetics.
[Training of Experts in Marine Fisheries and Revitalization of Marine Education]
▪ Marine recreation space planning will play a pivotal role in achieving ecosystem-based marine use management, defining the biologically and ecologically sensitive marine areas temporally and spatially, identifying current and future potential use of marine spaces, can be used to assess the cumulative effect of human behavior on marine ecosystems. With regards to economic industry, it is important to ensure that marine resources are used in a compatible manner by alleviating confrontation and development confrontation between enlargement and use of marine recreation space beforehand, and that the potential use of marine space developers identify conflicting issues and attempt to resolve them. Socially and culturally, it is possible to secure competitiveness through city brand improvement and become a center of marine recreational tourism services in the East Coast of Gangwon Province.
▪ By carrying out environmentally friendly high-density circulation filtration business, it will cut off complaints about environmental pollution and establish a permanent development base of aquaculture industry.
▪ Establish healthy and hygienic farming concept by fundamentally blocking fish diseases that can occur through external influent (ensuring quality competitiveness such as HACCP certification).
▪ Realization of planned production by developing stable production manual.
▪ Securing competitiveness of advanced marine aquaculture in preparation for Korea-China FTA.
▪ Reduced initial investment costs due to the reduction of land required for establishing aquaculture facilities.
▪ Reduce workforce shortage due to system limitation.
▪ Reduction of production cost by realizing energy saving through Close System.
▪ Improve margins by shortening the breeding period through year-round breeding of marine organisms.
▪ Strengthening industrial competitiveness through development of high value-added industrial varieties.
▪ Stabilize market and strengthen export competitiveness by establishing mass production technology.
▪ It is possible to secure source-based technology for the development of colloidal beverages with functional antiseptic sea cucumber using sea cucumber.
▪ Expected to have a technical effect on the development of high value-added functional beverages using marine aquatic organisms other than sea cucumber.
▪ In order to strengthen the competitiveness of Gangwon-do, Yeongdong region marine products, it is expected to utilize it as a local brand product by securing source-based technology for the development of localized sea cucumber brand products.
▪ In case of FTA conclusion with China, sea cucumbers are likely to grow into export products to China, the largest consumer market of sea cucumber.
