Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science. 2017;19(1):48-54.

Purpose & contents Alcohol use disorder is a chronic disease that recurs often and leads to repeated hospitalizations. The effort and commitment of the parties is most important in order to maintain sobriety. Improving self-regulation through the neurofeedback training makes it possible to improve empowerment, such as the self-efficacy and coping capabilities. Therefore it is the purpose of this study to develop a future-oriented nursing intervention program based on neurofeedback training for improved empowerment of patients with alcohol use disorders. The purpose of 1st year is data collection and analysis of factors influencing alcohol use disorders.
Result ● (Published to date) 1st year result summary : KCI 1 Influence of Severity of Problem Drinking, Circadian Rhythm and Sleep Quality on Sleep Disorder in Alcohol Use Disorder Patients. Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science. 2017;19(1):48-54. · Among alcohol-induced psychiatric disorders, sleep disorders are a very serious problem that 36-72% of patients with alcohol use disorders appeal. Repeated drinking for sleep causes tolerance, which requires an increasingly larger amount of alcohol, which further aggravates sleep disturbances, resulting in sleep disturbances and alcohol abuse becoming vicious. · Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 139 patients with alcohol use disorder who were admitted to a psychiatric hospital in D city, Korea. · There was significant correlations among severity of problem drinking, circadian rhythm, sleep quality and sleep disorders. The significant factors influencing sleep disorder were severity of problem drinking(β=.12, p=.042), circadian rhythm(β=-.14, p=.039) and sleep quality(β=.63, p=<.001). This model explained 56% of variance in sleep disorder(F=57.34, p=<.001).
Expected Contribution Sleep disorders in patients with alcohol use disorder has been reported as a recurring factor that causes the use of alcohol again since the sleep index does not change even during a 1-3-week abstinence. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and approach these sleep disorders in order to treat alcohol use disorders and to manage them continuously to prevent recurrence. In order to improve the sleep disorder of alcohol use disorder, it is necessary to develop the sleep nursing intervention program for early assessment, severity of drinking, correction of delayed circadian rhythm and improvement of sleep quality.
