Purpose&Contents
○ Development of cattle disease prevention using regulation of Agro-microbiota
○ Enhancement of immune function and productivity improvement of livestock using animal welfare type LED light
○ Monitoring of changes in the incidence of infectious agents (culicoides) and media
Purpose&Contents
○ Development of cattle disease prevention using regulation of Agro-microbiota
○ Enhancement of immune function and productivity improvement of livestock using animal welfare type LED light
○ Monitoring of changes in the incidence of infectious agents (culicoides) and mediated diseases (culicoides disease, mites, etc.) according to the breeding environment (temperature, humidity, ammonia gas) and development of control technology for harmful epidemic vectors according to the breeding environment
○ Development of standard indicator on immunologic and biologic responses for preventing major infectious diseases
○ Development of designated fermented feed and feed additive for the prevention of frequently occurred animal disease
○ To develop the prevention programs for internal and external parasites according to livestock environment and breeding types (indoor and grazing)
○ Development of farm management program to prevent disease in dairy cows
Results
○ Establishment of agro-microbiota mapping using metagenomics, high-throughput system (HTS) for isolating agro-microbiota, and microbial information for cattle infectious disease using OMICS functional analysis.
○ If white LED lighting is installed on the barn and additional LED lights are lit for 6 hours from 6:00 pm to 12:00 pm with an intensity of 200 lux, the stress of the cow will be reduced and productivity will improve.
○ We found that main culicoides species were C. arakawae in Jeonbuk area, and culicoides showed a preference for carbon dioxide from feces and cow breathing, and we confirmed that it had a tendency to avoid plant extraction oils (lavender, lemongrass, eucalyptus).
○ The development of standard indicator on gastro-intestinal infection of cattle was performed by analyzing pathogens and,, blood and immune parameters from feces and blood collected from 419 individuals. In the results, fibrinogen level was higher in individuals with diarrhea due to viral infections than in healthy and non-infection diarrhea cattle.
○ Investigation of control factor for metabolic disorders in the ruminant animal using the analysis of relationship between nutrition management, establishment of microbial strains and natural resources for the management of metabolic disorders and performance with screened candidates from meta-analysis, and development of a manual suggesting recommended application of TMR fermentation and natural feed additive for the prevention of metabolic disorders
○ The most common internal parasites associated with diarrhea was Giardia intestinalis and the most common external parasites (tick-borne diseases) in South Korea was Theileirosis, which was a problem in grazing animals (infection rate 45%) rather than in housing.
○ Development of biomarkers to manage health and disease
- Establishment of biological information affected by lactation
- Provision of biomarkers for utilization of health and ketosis monitoring in diary cows
Expected Contribution
○ Establishment of basic plans for agro-microbiota associated with cattle infectious disease and arrangement of scientific report for functionality of agro-microbiota in cattle infectious disease
○ Optimization of livestock farming application by measuring biochemical indicators such as antioxidation, immunity and hormone in vivo using light energy
○ We expect to help to develop culicoides repellent using patented equipment that can test the culicoides' preference and avoidance investigation for certain substances.
○ Prognostic discrimination and differential diagnosis of by measuring fibrinogen on gastro-intestinal diseases of cattle.
○ Mitigation of economical loss via recommending new strategies with designated feed additive to reduce metabolic disorders
○ This result not only can reduce the economic damage of livestock, but also prevent the economic losses to the cattle farm by establishment of preventive measures against internal and external parasites.
○ Farm application of bioindicator for cow health management
