Through the research on practical use of brass fish net cages, we will develop technology for brass fish nets that are environmentally friendly and can respond to disasters such as typhoons and red tide, improve aquaculture productivity, and present an economic model of cage production industry.
◦ Research contents
-Design and assembly of the brass net fishing cage of floating and the submersible type
-Evaluation of indoor application of copper alloy fishing net cage facilities
-Application and safety assessment of aquaculture
-Development of the economic model for financial analysis of copper-alloyed fish farming nets.
Results
◦ Improved productivity
-Brass fish nets showed little adherent organisms for 3 years, and the attached organisms of fiber fish nets increased 683 ~ 2,305 times compared to brass fishing net
-Aquaculture production increased 23.3%
◦ Improved durability of brass fishing net material
-Tensile strength : The target tensile strength is 440 MPa. Achieved 580 MPa, 30% higher than the target.
-Dezincification : Dezincification was improved when Cr and Co were added together.
Corrosion depths of less than 54μm have been achieved.
-Wear resistance : Wear resistance was improved due to the addition of Cr and drawing ratio. (abrasion loss 0.52mm)

-Since the edible part of red seabream Pagrus maior reared in copper alloy fishing net cages did not detect copper, it is judged to be no problem for biological and food safety.
◦ Structural safety of cooper alloy net system
- The tension of mooring line was about 3 tons at a current speed of 0.6 m/s, and its breaking strength considering the environmental impact and safety factor was estimated to be about 20.73 tons.
-The volume change rate of cooper alloy net cage according to the tidal current did not appear to decrease within about 0.2m/s of current speed.
- The swimming speed of the reared tuna was almost similar between daytime and nighttime. but, the mode value in the daytime distribution ranged from 1.0 ~ 1.2m/s, and the mode value at night ranged from 0.8 ~ 1.0m/s, showing a slightly higher daytime ◦◦Development of the economic model for financial analysis of copper-alloyed fish-farming nets.

◦ At present, the marine aquaculture industry uses copper alloys as a material for aquaculture fishing nets. The newly developed brass for aquaculture fish nets has superior tensile strength and dezincification compared to overseas products. The localization of fishing net materials will be competitive.
◦ Brass fishing nets are 100% recycled after use, preventing marine environmental pollution.
