Purpose & Contents
○ The purpose of this project is developing an upgraded Gateware system for KAJIMA Construction, the leading construction company in Japan, reflecting the requirements and condition of Japanese construction industry that can work as a stepping stone into the Japanese construction market.
○ The integrated construction resources management system proposed herein provides differentiated field operation assistant solution by linking various recognition technology; barcode, QR(Quick Response) code, RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification), fingerprints, and iris scan, with management software; on-site manpower and safety management, ReMiCon truck and dump truck management, supply chain management for fabricated steels, Precast Concrete, and curtain walls. And, it could interoperate with existing PMIS(Project Management Information System) and ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.

Results
2. Gateware system overview
○ Gateware system is integrated construction resource management system consisting of site access control; manpower, ReMiCon, Soil and Waste, and vehicles and key material management system; steel, curtain wall, and Precast Concrete. Also, in order to correctly reflect the site conditions, system includes durability for outdoor environment and various recognition technologies; such as RFID, QR code, fingerprints, and iris scan, considering versatile construction site conditions(Refer to Figure 2).
3. Development contents by Gateware component
A. Multi-recognition device development for construction resource management – Enhancing the Gateware device function
○ Gateware is resource access control device for construction sites enduring severe outdoor environment, such as extreme temperature from –40 to 70 degrees Celcius and heavy rain/dust, and is interoperable with multi-recognition modules(QR Code, RFID/NFC, fingerprints, and iris scan).
○ Mock-up crafting followed by conducting test for Good Software(GS) certification and acquiring IP44 certification through performance analysis
○ Acquiring necessary certificates for global market including radio equipment certification for exports to Japan.

B. Developing construction resource management application
(1) Manpower management
○ At the construction site, registration of new and existing labors and participant data management currently performed individually require significant time and managerial effort. Hence, management application that shares registration information of labor within all projects, records labor’s career based on the access data by sites, and manages the access data using multi-registration methods(RFID, QR Code, fingerprints, and iris scan) is developed.
(2) Material Management
○ It is developed to effectively manage ReMiCon pouring process, Soil/Waste take out, and Key materials(steels, curtain walls, and Precast Concrete members) supply chain.
(A) ReMiCon Pouring Management
○ Real-time status management based on the moving path tracking and time information of key milestones(Out for delivery, site entering, site exiting, and etc..) for ReMiCon pouring management.
(B) Soil/Waste management
○ Soil/Waste management system based on the vehicle access records at construction site and landfill providing accumulated vehicle counts and take-out quantity.
(C) Key material(Steel, PC, Curtain wall) logistics management
○ Real-time procurement status update for essential construction materials based on the location data between factory and site.
(D) Vehicle management
○ In additional to localization of Gateware based manpower management, KAJIMA Construction specifically requested vehicle assess management module which classifies regular vehicle and spot(Daily) vehicles.
C. Integrated operation system development for construction resource management
○ FAQ system supports and collects data through united reporting system for rapid response to customer queries, automated referencing to responses of similar queries, and automated response to frequently asked questions to utilize in upgrading itself for faster and better customer supports.
(1) Enhancing Gateware maintenance
○ Developed online managing method for the Gateware system except physical updates, such as firmware update and physical settings. Also, improved maintenance efficiency by embedding AES(Advance Encryption Standard) developed serial number(GUID) to system.
(2) Open API development for interoperability with other devices
○ Open API allows other devices to download labor data from the Gateware server and update the access data to server.
(A) Internal test and quality control prior to on-site implementation

D. Site applicability and feasibility validation through demonstration on Kajima’s site
○ In January 11th of 2017, held a meeting to implement the Gateware system to Trusco nakayama construction site at the request of KAJIMA Construction, and the pilot project ran from January of 2017 to February of 2018.
○ Then, pilot project ran on hospital project site of Tokyo University and Hitachi Metals, Ltd site to verify site applicability and validity of system.
○ Recorded worker’s access data using RFID cards and provided rapid support for errors and bugs to localize the software.
E. The manpower managing Gateware system sold and applied to ten sites
○ The manpower managing Gateware system sold to 10 construction sites of KAJIMA Corporation.
○ Sales total of 25M won, exceeding planned 23M won.
F. Signed supply contract with Nikken Lease Kogyo Co., Ltd. for entering Japanese market
○ Doalltech, Korean Construction IT company, and Nikken Lease Kogyo Co,. Ltd., Japanese construction material and equipment leasing company, signed supply contract of the Gateware system to Japanese construction sites on November 8th of 2017.
○ Reported on Korean newspaper.
G. 4 patents submitted(2 each for Korea and Japan), 2 for Design, 2 for trademark(1 each for Korea and Japan), 1 for PTC international

Expected ContrIbutIon
○ The achievement of this project is integrated construction resource management solution applicable in following areas of architecture, civil engineering, and plant engineering.
1. Industrial aspect expectation
○ Registered labors’ data is managed and shared among all related project sites preventing multiple issuances of RFID card and registration. In material management aspects, it works as interoperable real-time supply chain management system between factory and construction site managing life-cycle of member from shop drawing phase to installation. Hereby, by providing integrated data sharing in site-to-site and site-to-factory that none of the current management solutions in the market could provide, the Gateware system can contribute to vitalizing global exports of Korean management solutions.
○ The Gateware system expects to have better export outcome by securing the interoperability with Construction Career Up system promoted by MLIT(Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) of Japan.
○ Reversed application of Japanese advance integrated construction resource management process could bring positive effects to Korean Construction industry.
○ By expanding the field management paradigm focused on design book management, document management, financial accounting or cost management to construction resource management, it contributes to efficiency and technical advancement of construction field operation and management.
○ Presenting a new paradigm for construction ICT fusion and smart construction.
○ Meaningful in changing the stereotype of the construction industry from ‘Brick-and-Mortar’ to ‘Smart Construction’ and presenting application direction of 4th industrial revolution technology.
○ Expected contribution in the sales increase of recognition module industry included in the hardware system proposed in this project.
2. Economic Aspect
○ In accordance with the Construction Career Up system as part of Japanese government plan, 15,000 construction sites of 5 corporate & medium size construction companies expect to implement the Gateware system, including construction manpower management, until 2022, which expects estimated total sales of 22.8B won.
○ Influenced by export of the Gateware system, the sales of related companies in recognition industry(RFID, biometrics, IOT, and etc..) expect to increase about 6B won, which is about 20% of the Gateware system’s revenue.
○ The Gateware system expects to enter the construction market of Singapore and Hongkong where the combined industry size is 30 trillion won/year, about 6% of the Japanese market. Moreover, it can work as the stepping stone to Chinese construction market where industry size is around 200B won, which is 30 times of Korean Market and 6 times of Japanese market.
4. Employment creating effect
○ Expected employment creation followed by expansion electronic card terminal industry: With assumption of 200M won / person, expected sales of 288B won will create about 150 new employments in the construction IT sector.
○ In addition, additional 30 new employment is expected when the revenue of related recognition industry, such as biometrics and RFID readers, increases by about 6B won.
