Ⅳ. Development results
☐ Published a total of 41 SCI, 1 non-SCI listed sites
☐ 25 related patents applied, 5 registered
☐ 29 domestic and international academic presentations and 4 awards
☐ The main goal of this study was to secure MEA structure design and manufacturing technology that satisfies the high performance and durability of non-precious metal-based solid alkali membrane fuel cells in order to secure the price competitiveness of fuel cells for backup power, and achieve the world's best performance and durability. Summarized as follows.
☐ Optimized fuel cell performance by introducing a hierarchical polymer electrolyte membrane for water management - Achieved fuel cell performance of 901 mW/cm² through MEA using a line patterned membrane produced by a printing method, which is more than 20% better than the existing performance.
☐ Optimization of fuel cell performance using a three-dimensional structure high activity single atom-based non-precious metal catalyst-based electrode - Commercial JM Pt/C: 1550 mA/cm²@0.6V, 1045 mW/cm² / Co@C/C, a non-platinum catalyst:1062 mA/cm²@0.6V, 762 mW/cm² / Fe-NC based on bio-material, a non-platinum catalyst: 1271 mA/cm²@0.6V, 881 mW/cm².
☐ Development of basic technology for self-humidifying PEM-AEM hybrid MEA-Under no-humidification conditions, the existing reference PEM-based MEA shows little performance, whereas the AEM-PEM half-half fuel cell initially showed a performance of 900 mW/cm².Through this, the possibility of applying a humidified fuel cell was confirmed.
☐ R&D for high durability through optimization of AEMFC electrodes using developed materials-Both MEA with platinum and non-platinum catalysts achieved the goal of the first stage by reducing the performance by 50% or less when running for more than 1,000 hours.(Platinum-based: 46.8%, non-platinum-based 45.7% decrease)
☐ Development of a carbon-based model catalyst with high activity and high durability - Carbon catalyst performance: Achieved 0.9 V or higher (onset potential).Carbon catalyst durability: Achieve performance reduction within 25% (0.6 ~ 1.0 V, after 1000 cycles).Achieved a heterogeneous element doping content of 7 at% or more.
☐ Development of a high-performance, highly durable fuel cell electrode structure through the introduction of multi-scale nanocomposite structures - Performance: Achieved 20% or more performance improvement compared to MEA performance without nanocomposite structures. Durability: Achieved 50% or less performance reduction compared to initial MEA performance.
☐ Design of non-precious metal catalysts and MEA systems for AEMFC based on computational chemistry - Establishment of oxygen reduction reaction mechanism for Metal/N/C catalyst systems, derivation of candidates for new catalyst systems, and analysis of MEA reaction environments using hybrid multiscale simulation methodology
