Providing information on field operation and air quality of the bus stop fine dust reduction system and developing mobile applications for all citizens to participate in research.
Citizens prepare the experience effects and feelings of reducing fine dust concentration in the form of a survey, and suggest their opinions on how to reduce fine dust in the actual living space and use them to establish effective countermeasures.
◦ 2 Second Year
1) Measurement of air quality at the Living Lab bus stop
According to the measurement of air quality at one bus stop in Sang-dong, Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, the concentration of fine dust is slightly higher than the atmospheric concentration measured through the Ministry of Environment's automatic measuring network.
TVOC concentration tends to increase from the time the first car runs, with the highest concentration from 13:00 to 15:00.
2) Analysis of passenger getting on and off the bus and bus stopping at Living Lab bus stations
- In case of the number of passengers changing, the number of passengers increases during the rush hour during the weekdays. On the other hand, the number of users increases between 11:00 and 18:00 on weekends.
- Time-to-time bus stop extraction at Living Lab bus stops confirmed that 90 to 100 buses stop during the weekdays except early morning (05:00-07:00) and late night (22:00-24:00), on weekends, the number of bus stops tends to increase slightly between 11:00AM and 18:00PM similar to the number of bus stop users’ pattern.
3) The dust reduction system installation Living Lab according to Behavior Analysis of Airflow and dust in the bus stop.
- Based on the design of the bus stop in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do, which is the target of the Living Lab, the performance of airflow and fine dust reduction in the stop following the installation of a safety fence and fine dust reduction system was analyzed through computer flow analysis (CFD).
- As a result of the analysis, it is possible to improve the effect of reducing fine dust when a safety fence with an open front center is installed at the bus stop targeted for the Living Lab (2m between the fences). In addition, the effect of reducing fine dust according to the installation location of the airflow injection module (blowing module) of the fine dust reduction system was analyzed.
4) Installation of Living Lab of the fine dust reduction system at bus stops

- A living lab was installed and operated for one central lane-type bus stop in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do. To compare the fine dust reduction performance with the existing bus stop, the Living Lab is installed side by side to the left of the existing bus stop.
- As a result of measuring fine dust reduction performance, the R&D goal was achieved by reducing the PM10 concentration by 50% compared to the existing bus stop.
- A total of 144 people participated in the online survey on the satisfaction of bus stops to reduce fine dust by the citizen monitoring group, and about 60% of the respondents answered that the air quality inside the bus stop was improved. In addition, it was evaluated that the intensity and temperature of clean air blowing in the bus stop were appropriate.
4) Operation of a fully open fine dust-reducing bus stop (additional research)
- A fully open bus stop design and on-site operation were additionally carried out by reflecting the opinions of local governments and citizens on the simplification of the structure of bus stops to reduce fine dust.
- Similar to the existing bus stop, it was designed in a form without a space-separated safety fence, and was installed and operated for one central lane-type bus stop in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do. Reduced PM10 concentration by 50% or more compared to existing bus stops
