II. Objectives
The purpose of this study is to develop original technology for material synthesis for the development of new materials that can remove the fine-particles(PM 2.5) generated from high-traffic road area and volatile organic compounds, NOx, and SOx, which are fine-particles precursors that cause fine-particles.
◦ Development of electrostatic filter for ultra-lightweight cellulose electrode
◦ Synthesis of porous adsorbent of Mn/Fe silicalite that can be used repeatedly
◦ Development of MOF-KICT, highly porous and renewable adsorbent
◦ Removal technology of fine-particles precursor using long wavelength and heat system
III. Necessities
The concentration of fine-particles in the atmosphere is increasing due to global industrialization and climate change, and this has strengthened the atmospheric environmental standards for fine-particles.
Accordingly, it is urgent to develop a technology for reducing fine-particles applicable to densely populated residential areas or roads with heavy traffic.
As the main research contents of the “Development of Proof Technique for ParticulateMatters Reduction in Urban Roadside” currently being carried out as a major project by the KICT put a great emphasis on the development of evaluation techniques and establishment of facilities for verification, in this research, we intend to focus on the development of new materials in the field of the removal of the fine-particles and substances that cause fine-particles.
IV. Contents and Scopes
This research was conducted in the third year of the entire three-year research period, and the specific contents and scopes are as follows.
◦ Development of electrostatic filter for ultra-lightweight cellulose electrode : for removal of fine-particles
- Derivation of optimal conditions through a combination of various binders and conductive substances (GO, nZVI), etc.
- Manufacturing of ultra-light electrodes 10,000 times the level of normal cellulose.
◦ Synthesis of porous adsorbent of Mn/Fe silicalite that can be used repeatedly
- Development of an porous Mn/Fe silica material with a high BET specific surface area of 1752.15 m2/g and that can reduce 5 ppm of BTEX gas by more than 90% within 5 minutes.
- Porous Mn/Fe silica was regenerated by UV irradiation and maintained the adsorption performance even after repeated use 10 times.
◦ Development of MOF-KICT, highly porous and renewable adsorbent
- Development of an various Metal organic framework material with a high BET specific surface area of 2960 m2/g
- Developed MOF can reduce fine dust precursors such as NO and SO2, H2S by 100%.
◦ Removal technology of fine-particles precursor using long wavelength and heat system
- Analysis of waste heat generation characteristics and selection and development of optimal heat catalyst candidates according to the type of roadside street lamp.
- It removes more than 90% of acetaldehyde, a fine dust precursor material, and improves R&D catalyst efficiency by more than 30% compared to the existing photocatalytic system.
V. Final Goal
The final goal of this project is to develop a new material that can rapidly remove fine-particles (Pm2.5) generated from the high-traffic road area and volatile organic compounds (Hydrocarbon), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulfur oxides (SOx), which are precursors that cause fine-particles.
