For the study of the characteristics of flowering of paper mulberry, rooted cuttings originated from 21 provinces and growing at Jeonbug National University nursury were used in this experiment. The results investigated in the present study are summarized as follows ; 1. The plants from Buan and Naju were monoecious and the others are dioecious. 2. The male heads of Buan and Naju origin were globular in their shape, greyish brown in the color and each head had 50-80 male flowers, and those of Jechon, Bonghwa, Gochang and Sungju origin were wide-ellipse form, bluish brown and each head 102-140 male flowers, and those of Namwon and Jangsu origin were long-ellipse form, brown and each bead had l30-154 male flowers. 3. Buan and Naju origin had one male head on each axil of the new twig, but those of Jangsu, Namwon and Samchug origin bad two or three male head on each axil of the old twig. 4. Maximum flowering percentage of Jangsu and Namwon origin was 72-78 percent after 7 days from the start of flowering whereas that of the Sungju and Jechon origin was about 90 percent after after 11 days from the start of flowering 5. A male flower of Namwon and Naju origin had 3 stamens that of Buan and Sungju origin had 4, Jechon and Jangsu origin 3 or 4. 6. The male flowers bloomed about 7-15 days after the head formed. 7. Self-pollination of this species seems to be provented due to the protandry phenomenon in all provenances. 8. The Buan and Naju provenances are thought to be B. kazinoki because of their monoecious character, however the other provenances appear to be hybrids of B. kazinoki and B. papyrifera as they were dioecious.
