그러나 [Co(II)₂(TNBP)]착물은 Co(II)₂/Co(II)Co(I)와 Co(II)Co(I)/Co(I)₂의 2단계 1전자 산화 환원과정으로서 -0.81 V 와 -1.10 V 근처에서 준가역적이고 확산 지배적으로 일어났으며, Ni(II)와 Cu(II)착물은 M(II)₂/M(I)₂로 진행되는 1단계 2전자 산화 환원과정으로서 -1.38 V 와 -1.31 V 및 -1.10 V와 -1.04 V 근처에서 준가역적이고 확산 지배적으로 일어났다.

[NOIPH], [NOTDH₂], and [TNBPH₄] have been synthesized from 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and aromatic amines. Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes from the reaction metal salts with tridentate Schiff base [NOIPH] and tetradentate Schiff base [NOTDH₂] and [TNBPH₄] were synthesized. Metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, NMR spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis. Metal complexes in solid state have been shown that the mole ratio of Schiff Base [NOIPH] and [TNBPH₄] as N₂O ligand type to metal(II) is 1:2 and 2:1 respectivly, but that of [NOTDH₂] as N₂O₂ligand type to metal(II) is 1:1. In DMF solution, Metal complexes; [M(II)(NOIP)₂] and [M(II)₂(TNBP)] of N₂O ligand type were four-coordinated configurations. The other metal complexes, [M(II)NOTDH₂] of N₂O₂ligand type, Cu(II) complex was four-coordinated configuration, but Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes were hexa-coordinated configurations ligated with two water molecules at axial positions. The redox process of metal complexes in DMF solution containing 0.1 M TBAP as supporting electrolyte was investigated at glassy carbon electrode by cyclic voltammetry and by differential pulse voltammetry. As the scan rate was increased, the reduction current increases and the peak potential schifts toward the negative. The electrochemical reactions of free ligand are diffusion controlled and irreversible at -1.5 V. Reduction step of complexes [Co(II)(NOIP)₂] and [Co(II)(NOTD)(H₂O)₂] were observed in two step; Co(III)/Co(II), Co(II)/Co(I) as one electron process of quasi-reversible or irreversible, and that of Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were observed in one step; M(II)/M(l) as one electron process of quasi-reversible. But reduction step of complexes [Co(II)₂(TNBP)] was observed in two step; Co(II)₂/Co(II)Co(I) and CO(II)CO(I)/CO(I)₂as one electron process of quasi-reversible, and that of Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were observed in one step; M(II)₂/M(I)₂as two electron process of quasi-reversible. To compare [M(II)(L₁)_m] (L₁; ligand derivated from 2-hydroxy -1-naphthaldehyde) with [M(II)(L₂)_m] (L₂; ligand derivated from salicyaldehyde) for redution potential, redution potential of [M(II)(L₁)_m] is generally more positive than [M(II)(L₂)_m], and the result have been indicated that [M(II)(L₁)_m] is less electrochemically stable than [M(II)(L₂)_m]. Therefore, Reduction potentials of metal(II) complexes slightly shift to positive direcrion with the increasement of aromatic ring size of a ligand.
