It is safe to say that we convey not only a message but also culture when we communicate with each other through our daily conversation. Culture consists of various activities such as the arts, philosophy, knowledge, beliefs, ways of life, and customs, which are considered to be important for the development of civilization and of people's wisdom. Language is a product or result of the culture in which the language it self is used as a way of communication. As a result, learning a language should be accompanied by learning the culture of the country where the language is used. In my opinion, proverbs and idioms belong to the culture of the country it self. Proverbs are short sentences that people often quote, which give advice or tell one something about life. It is said that proverbs differ from common sentences in their communicative effect. And this difference can be made by the method of the figurative expression. It also differs from the common sentence in that it expresses content, which int ends to communicate by suggesting the facts or using other meanings. The meaning of proverbs, which are expressed by symbol and metaphor, have educational purposes such as enlightenment, warning, satire, etc. An idiom is a group of words which have a different meaning when used together which is different from the one they would have if you took the meaning of the words separately. One of the big problems we have with idioms is that it is often impossible to guess the meaning of an idiom from the words it contains. Besides, idioms often have a stranger meaning than non-idiomatic phrases. But I think we can easily under stand the meanings of some idioms well once we get the meaning of the animal symbol and imagery as I mentioned in this paper. The cultural differences between countries are big problems in learning a foreign language. So, we should fully under stand the culture of the target language. This study is to under stand and analyze some learning problems which are derived from English proverbs and idioms. And I would like to emphasize the importance of under standing and learning culture. Even though foreign languages and cultures are not easy to learn and teach, we as English teachers should try to learn and teach many facts about the target culture such as the proverbs and idioms systematically.
