Oh Jeong-hee and Kim, Chai-won, who are a contemporary of each other and bom in same period, represent the self-consciousness, the inner world, through language of sensibility as women writers. The purpose of this study is to identify the literary world by focusing on the imageries of their novels and by comparing and analyzing their novels. The concept of image was first explored and then the specific texts were analyzed. It is difficult to define the concept of image as its meaning is ambiguous. First, some people consider the image as a sensible expression comprehending all the perceptual impressions. If the subjective and intuitive impressions are added to the objects, it comes under the category of image. Second, some people do not restrict the concept of image to only a sensible expression and extend it to the representation of the abstract concept. By doing so, the image includes all the intellectual or mental activities. Finally, if the concept of image is limited to the concept which is in contrast with perception or concept, the image is located in between the pure perception and the concept of perceived object. The discord between the literary worlds of Oh Jeong-hee and Kim Chai-won can be classified into the image of anxiety and that of despair. The image of water represents weariness and ennui leading to a feeling of helplessness as well as that of anxiety the speaker feels from the everyday life. The delicate psychology of speaker is represented -through hair, powder, sinking ship, thirsty, voracity and insomnia. For the image of despair, Oh Jeong-hee makes use of the image of deformity while Kim Chai-won makes use of the image of a lost article and man who does not conform to custom. Above-mentioned discord is caused by negative recognitions on the world where security of life of human being is not guaranteed= all the living things are mortal that are destined to disappear in the passage of time without exceptions. The awareness makes humanities degrade and human beings are suffering from the loss of member of family because of immortality. The image of extinction is represented through the images of personified 'him' or well in the novels of Oh Jeong-hee while it is represented through incantation in the novels of Kim Chai-won. The negative image of the world is chiefly revealed through the absence of fatherhood led by war. Oh Jeong-hee employs deviation as a response to the world to exhibit hostility and enmity to the world. It is represented through the image of fire. Her gaze to the world and herself in the objective way is presented by the mirror image. On the contrary, Kim Chai-won conceives the maladjustment to the world as destined and describes it by employing the image of puppet. She describes the resistance by representing the image to cut off the string to control its destiny, but the resisting challenges foreshadows failure. Another response is to long for the childhood and nature, the symbols of the paradise or utopia set in the mind. The attachment to them makes Kim Chai-won's works more optimistic than Oh Jeong-hee's that the speaker loses valuable goals of life and comes to be at a loss. To compare Kim Chai-won's and Oh Jeong-hee's novels in the features of images, the novels of Oh Jeong-hee are getting sensuous in that the objects represented in the novels are stimulative in themselves and she places an emphasis on stimulation while the images described in the novels of Kim Chai-won are getting sensuous in that she places an emphasis on the beauty of the objects in nature. The novels of Oh Jeong-hee can be characterized by the tensions between the contrary images while those of Kim Chai-won can be characterized by weariness and gentleness led by mobility, the stream of images. Oh Jeong-hee employs dreams and songs and Kim Chai-won employs songs and poems to represent the images. The images represented in the forms of dream, song and poem exhibit the inner self of the characters or the theme of the text. In this way, Oh Jeong-hee and Kim Chai-won present the vivid image of the conflict with outer world and add up to the great depth of the work, and lead it to an artistic and aesthetic success. This paper has set in the limitation of studying writers whose writing career is still on-going, and so it's not possible to look through all their work. Knowing that referring to other writers' use of image in their work would fully benefit the understanding of Oh and Kim's unique image embodiment and not being able to do is because of the scarcity of the previous studies in the field was a problem that haunted me till the last step of this study.
