남북한 방송언어의 비교 연구 : 스포츠 중계 방송을 중심으로 (A) comparative study of the broadcasting languages between South and North Koreas : focused on sports relay broadcasting원문보기

Recently, people are more concerned about the national unification. Accordingly, more studies are being conducted on the differences of two Koreas' politics, economy and society as well as the recovery of the linguistic homogeneity. For the last six decades after the national division, two Korean have adopted different language policies. While South Korea has adopted some programmatic language policy emphasizing the autonomous development of the language, North Korea has relied on an artificial and prescriptive linguistic policy combining their Juche (self-reliant) thought and language. Accordingly, two Korean have come to have different pronunciations, vocabularies, meanings, grammars, spellings and styles.
In order to surmount such a linguistic heterogeneity between two Koreas, it is essential to comparatively study the linguistic heterogeneity in depth and thereupon, arrange linguistic unification standards.
Broadcasting affect the language much. The journalist who have been trained in their use of language in a professional way tend not to depart much from the linguistic principles, but ordinary people's talks broadcast may distort the development of language. In this regard, it is necessary to study the difference of broadcasting language between two Koreas, and in particular, we need to pay attention to the fact that North Korea's broadcasting language has deteriorated due to the intensification of their ideology and maintenance of their system.
Under such circumstances, this study was aimed at comparatively studying two Koreas' broadcasting languages centering about the sports relay broadcasting languages. To this end, relationship between sports and broadcasting, history and conditions of two Koreas' sports relay broadcasting were reviewed, and thereupon, roles and qualifications of the sports casters using the sports relay broadcasting languages were discussed. In addition, since the ordinary language may be a base for the broadcasting language, North Korea's normal grammar or "cultural language" was reviewed in reference to South Korea's standard language. Besides, functions and policies of two Koreas' broadcasting were examined in terms of the messages broadcast.
The differences of broadcasting languages between South and North Koreas can be summarized as follows;
1) Formative characteristics
The most heterogeneous formative element between South and North Koreas' broadcasting language is use of polite expressions. While South Korea's broadcasting language uses televiewer-centered polite expressions, North Korea's broadcasting language has no principle for polite expressions for televiewers. They only use the polite expression for their leader.
In addition, there are differences of such suffixes as plural 's' or 'wise' between two Koreas. North Korean broadcasting language use 's' and 'wise' more frequently than South Korean broadcasting language due to the influence from China.
Lastly, there are differences of language styles between two Koreas. South Korean broadcasting frequently use the colloquial abbreviations, while North Korean broadcasting use the original literary styles primarily.
2) Characteristics related to vocabulary
The most heterogeneous element between two Koreas' broadcasting languages involves vocabulary. In overall terms, South Koreans may well understand North Korea's sentences. However, there are great differences of vocabularies between two Koreas, while foreign languages are differently spelled. Such differences may be attributable to the fact that the original vocabularies are differently replaced with their foreign counterparts.
3) Characteristics of pronunciations
Both in two Koreas' broadcasting, the long and short sounds are mistakenly used, because the norms of spelling was discarded without a standard pronunciation set. In particular, North Korean broadcasters pronounce the short sound as long.
On the other hand, the fortised phenomena are frequently heard in both Koreas' broadcasting languages. Many other words than specified for fortis are also fortised in order to delay their meaning clearly and emphasize their phonetic values. North Korean broadcasting language features more fortises than South Korean counterpart partly due to the influence from their dialects and partly due to their scheme of propaganda.
There are differences of the initial sound principle between two Koreas' broadcasting languages. South Korean broadcasting does well keep the initial sound principle, while North Korean broadcasting does not well keep the principle.
4) Narrative characteristics
Narration serves to correctly and effectively delay a certain knowledge, opinion and sentiment to others. South Korean broadcasting keeps the narration due to its sense of mission as public journalism. However, North Korean broadcasting does not rely on narration faithfully, but uses the narratives related with loyalty to the party, proletariat dictatorship, people's democracy and revolutionary war.
Among the broadcasting languages, the sports relay broadcasting language is most speedy. North Korea's sports relay broadcasting language tends to be slower than South Korea's counterpart in order to be more authoritative.
It was confirmed through this study that there is no peculiar difference of the basic grammar structure of the broadcasting langauge between two Koreas, but that there are great differences of forms, vocabularies, pronunciation and narration between two Koreas' broadcasting languages due to difference of ideologies and systems, North Korea's artificial language policy, and misuse of the language for personal idolization.
