This monograph aims to come up with an efficient and systematic plan for Korean language teaching for foreign labors as well as help the living of foreign labors in Korea. As a concrete way, we thought what can be the textbook for foreign labors and groped for the constitution of its contents. So far within the Korean language materials of university educational faculty did not effectively reflect the real life of foreign labors, so they did not have adequate learning material for themselves. Furthermore, it is true that the educational paradigm of language education for foreign labors has not been discussed fully. Therefore, the current study is to discuss in depth the language teaching paradigms for foreign labors, which has been excluded from the Korean education system. In chapter two we examined a couple major weekend Korean language facilities that offer programs for foreign labors, in order to understand the current situation concerning Korean language program for them. Also, we conducted a survey among foreign labors, which enabled us to map out the current Korean language programs and to point some of the problems and subsequent suggestions concerning those programs. Foreign labors generally adapt well to life in Korea and tend to have high aspiration for learning Koran language to ease their life at work. However unfortunately, the quality of current educational environment for them is less than adequate. Generally, we can point to high dependency on volunteers by untrained teachers, small classrooms, and the materials and curriculum that are not systematic at all. Therefore, the need for education and research for high quality system is paramount at the point. We next analyzed five Korean language teaching materials for foreign labors. However, except for materials from "Dun-son" these materials are a direct adaptation from university materials and teachers develop their own supplementary textbooks, so their contents tend to lack full reflection of the real life situations of foreign labors. Also they usually lack pictures, clips or legends-if they do include such tools they are very limited in numbers-and thus the students have hard time understanding the content. Further, these materials do not provide audio-tapes for listening so there were no materials that incorporated speaking, listening, writing, and writing at the same time. In chapter three the study examined the curriculum structures in learning materials for foreign labors. On the basis of survey results and problems found in material analysis of weekend Korean language teaching facilities, we first addressed the need for better structures in Korean language learning materials. As for the criteria for Korean language learning materials for foreign labors, we suggested the factors such as, clear declaration of the aims of study, practical contents that better reflect the life of foreign labors, curriculum structures that understand the language and cultural environment of each student, writings and cultures that have diversity, materials that are versatile, and inclusion of study materials for students who do not have much time. As for factors that need to be considered in material and course structures, we examined each areas of students, teachers, study writers, styles of language, and supplementary materials. We concluded that the language learning materials should include such tools as promoting of interest through understanding each student, structures of content and method of suggestion, techniques that teach pronunciation and spelling. Also, method of structuring the materials should be studied based on the close examination of practical aspects of Korean language. For fundamental ways of material structures, we suggested factors such as styles of universal materials, diversity of styles of writing, and inclusion of study evaluation section at the end of each study. Structures of each levels of materials should be divided into Korean alphabet, beginning, intermediate, and advanced. As for ways of structuring each chapter, we suggested that it be divided into aims of study, body, new vocabularies, grammar, practice sect ion, and appendix. For factors in material structures, we decided that it has sections on topic, vocabularies, grammar, language, culture, supplementary materials, and teacher's aid. In deciding on material content, we suggested in two separate areas of vocabulary and content, and here unlike university materials we focused on vocabularies and topics that foreign labors need for living effectively in Korea. That is to say, the vocabularies are picked based on foreign labor's real life situation, their need, results from material analysis, and commonality of existing researchers. Contents are then picked based on life at work, real life situations, and necessary topics in consultation. Lastly, we structured and suggested actual chapters in beginning and intermediate levels. We also suggested the need for designated Korean language facilities for foreign labors in order to better their education environment and others. The implication an significance of the current study are that it prompted reasons for developing high quality education for foreign labors that go beyond language. We accomplished this through discussing specific Korean language educational paradigms for foreign labors who have been excluded in our general educational system for so long.
