The purpose of this study is to survey the group teasing practices spreading wide in terms of teasers' and victims' characteristics and problematic behaviors and relationship between home and school education, and thereby, provide for some data useful to prevention of the group teasing and facilitation of students' sound growth and development. For this purpose, middle school students were sampled to be subject to a questionnaire survey after being classified into teasers, victims and neutral students. The survey tool or the questionnaire used for this study was developed by modifying and adapting preceding questionnaires; one was the questionnaire titled 'Teasers and Victims' (1998) developed by the Plaza for Youth's Dialogue' to survey the conditions of group teasing and determine the causes of group teasing and find their solutions; the other was the questionnaire designed by Korea Education Development Institute (1998) to survey the conditions of group teasing. As a result of this survey, 43.2% of the students answered that there was one student or more group-teased in their classroom, and 83.5% of the students responded that they had witnessed a group teasing once or more within a year. Such findings suggests that group teasing is spreading to a very serious extent at schools. Therefore, teachers and parents are obliged to pay a continuous attention to students concerned and guide them well to prevent group teasing. And as soon as they find any group teasing, they should take appropriate measures immediately to solve the problem. On the other hand, 41.4% of the students answered that the victims were subject to a group teasing because they boasted of themselves or ignored their friends, while 27.4% of the students opined that the victims could not well get along with their friends. It was found that the majority of teasers had some school or family problems or were mischievous. 33.7% of the ordinary students answered that they had no special feeling for group teasing, while 15.9% of them responded that they were cautious of the teasers. Such findings suggest that our youth do not respect others, being indifferent and egoistic due to lack of a personality education and college-only school education. Hence, school and home education should be well designed to nurture students' personality to prevent group teasing. Teachers are requested to intervene positively in any group teasing through reinforced counselling, while cooperating with parents to find a fundamental solution to group teasing. Furthermore, schools are obliged to develop and operate a preventive program through an in-depth study of students' psychological factors. The findings of this study suggest that the education authority is obliged to normalize school education to reinstate the personality program and thereby, help students enjoy their school life, while parents make efforts to nurture their children's sociality correctly and thereby, form a smooth human relationship. In all, school and home should combine their efforts to prevent group teasing.
