This thesis intends to analyze empirically the content and examine the materials and techniques of my works which were exhibited at (2-8, Oct., 2002 at Dongduk Art Gallery) with a motif 'Dream of Tree'. My works were invoked by infinite sense of mystery and attraction to the accidental phenomenon shaped by unconscious instinct, so that on the one hand, I repeated the course of choosing accident and on the other hand, I composed the intended picture by my own volition through the intervention of accident. I took accident as a basis of my work because the thing created by this accident had a stronger and more inevitable image than the one by a creative intention, and in addition, it looked fresher and more organic. The motif of this work is a tree. In my work, the image of tree is abstractly built by a propulsive energy until inner necessity as a hopeful thinking is to be drawn. For this reason, the image of tree occupies a mental and plastic position, an important thing in the picture. The works put on the exhibition were a way of my efforts to explore nature's new content and to find beauty of harmony by converting an impression felt from the tree into inner experiences. Therefore, I intended to express the inner world of mine by simplifying the impression and image received from the tree rather than the substantiality of natural phenomenon, based on both of them by imagination, or reconstructing them into a form of organic abstraction. From this point of view, my approach was an application of marbling technique to my work. Since my work was completed on the moment when the accident of marbling technique and inner experiences coincide into an intuition, I analyzed reversely what I thought in the process of working in order to pursue the value of my creation. The reapplication of marbling technique in accordance with the attribute of Hanji during the course of oriental painting resulted in a profundity with a strong permeability of chenille yarn dyed. Though my work started from accident, the artificial and planned profundity, and even plain yarn dyed, a world sought after by the oriental painting could be achieved through the intervention of my creative intention.
