Educational status in Korea is worsening than ever and disputing topic than any other aspects of society. Nationwide public education system paved the way of educational opportunity for low-income class, prevented the children harassment from children labour and established the development of capitalism and upgraded the national competitiveness. However, as the public education has extended further, under the shadow of so called 'public education', we could notice the seriousness of the decreasing autonomy, creativity and diversity in students. Unite states, England and other countries along with Korea have sought the other way for better education away from this present public schooling. Among several alternative options, home schooling might be the major decision for parents to teach their children according to their own belief and value. The theoretical background of this thesis was drawn from 'Deschooling Society' of I. Illich. In considering this theoretical framework, researcher has tried to show the status of Home Schooling in Korea. For the observation and analysis, researcher took qualitative study. Among the in-depth observation, interview, and content analysis in qualitative study, researcher conducted this study using the interview and literatures on Home Schoolers. The total number of research object are 41 houses(50 interviewee). The results and interpretation of this study include as follows. 1. The characteristics of Home Schooler. Demographic identification of Home Schooling parents are mostly 40 years old(80.4%). Their children's age spectrum reaches widely from 7 years old to 19. However middle and high school age level is dominant. 37.1% of Home Schooler's residence are located in rura area. This shows their ecocentric life Style. One distinguishing point of Home Schoolers is their higher educational level than ordinary parents in Korea. 73.2% have degree in undergraduate. 17.9% graduate degree. Their economic levels are mostly middle class. And the initiative of Home Schooling are laid on mother side. Home Schooler have also strong religious orientation. 2. The motivation of Home Schooling. Five practical reasons made them choosing Home Schooling. Teacher's non-educational attitude in class, unhealth peership like Ostracizing between peer group, violence, selfishness, humiliation between students. And, problems in public educational system structured by compulsiveness, commonality, unfulfillness in education and formality. And the last shows the undesirable results of school education. Its competitiveness, consumption habits and the decaying of creativeness, dispersion of community spirit. 3. The Directiveness of Home Schooling. 14 various values can be answered meeting the "Why Home Schooling?" Among these, the most highest concern focused on self-reliance, eco life and environmental things. And community value, life pursuing liberty and happiness, philosophy of "life is education", inward growth follow. 4. Home Schooling Curriculum. The major subjects of Home Schooling Curriculum are English, Mathematics, science, Korean and history with much similarity of traditional curriculum. However, Home Schooling also emphasize the field education, self achieving course and reading as well as learning musical instruments. Their study process make room for students for better educational atmosphere. 5. Hindrance in Home Schooling. Loneliness(25%), uneasiness(16.7%), biased view(16.7%), parents-teacher's quality(8.3%), legal requirements(8.3%) and limitation in making human relationship(5.6%) are the difficulties in Home Schooling. Conclusions from this thesis can be drawn as follows. 1. Home Schooling in Korea can be a alternative approach together with school education. 2. Home Schooling must be recognized as one of the educational form and developed for healthy direction. 3. Home Schooling can be the process of social movement. So, further research should be done after this study. Firstly, Educational and scientific study must be needed in Home schooler's educational environment and view and methodology. Secondly, In-depth personal life study must be also required both parents and children. Lastly, Home Schooling effectiveness should be analyzed according to the sociological framework.
