In this study, through Beethoven's cello sonata op.69, No,3, we consider Beethoven's influence on the history of music, his idea of music pervailling through his whole music, and the characteristics of his music in respect of form. In Beethoven's music, there are all kinds of emotions, form the one that we feel at the most urgent moment to an ecstasy. therefore the audiences, no matter what conditions they are in, can be sympathized with his music. Beethoven, who was a philosopher, progressice, and also ethical idealist contributed to enhance the position of the musicians of those days. And his music, which is full of endless longings for in finity and much to be emotional and subjective, induced the birth of Romanticism. In respect of history of music, Beethoven's music is in the transition period between Romanticism and Classicisim. Thay's because his music is very personal and at the same time very faithful to the form. Beethoven accomplisged the musical form, especially the sonata form by introducing new styles such as, the contrast of the two main themes, the contrast by introducing completely mew motive, taking counterpoint method at development, and using scherzo instead of minuet at the 3rd movement. No.3 is the best one that shows all these characteristics of Beethoven's music, and it is the most beloved one among his 5 cello music. It uses the broad scale and technic, showing stability in the number and form of movement, and having piano solo in it. it is the elegant and profound music with the harmony of unity and variety based on variation. No.3 is composed of three movements, and in the 2nd movement, witty and cheerful scherzo is used instead of minuet, and while adagio is not used in the first movement, the prelude of adagio is inserted in the 3rd movement. through all the three movements, the skipmotion of perfect 4 and 5 interval and conjunt motion are used, and o. k rhythm, half notes and quarter notes are used the unit, diatonic scale, modulation, swquence, and organ point is used when parts are changed and extended coda is also used. through this study we analgize the characteristics of Beethoven's music, especially cello sonata No.3. With this knowledge and understanding the perrformer should play the beautiful music full of life, an4ld create the happiness and impression among the audience.
