This study was conducted to examine preventive and curative efficacies of different formulation of strobilurin fungicides(BAS 490, 500, 510, 516, 517, 5361, Kumulus and Fenarimol for the control of powdery mildew disease caused by Sphaerotheca fuliginea in oriental melon. The results were as follows: 1. In uitro experiment showed that Kumulus, sulfur containing fungicide, had the highest control efficacy of 92.5% for conidia germination of powdery mildew. 2. Demethylation fungicide(Fenarimo1 12.5%) and DMM fungicide(BAS 490) appeared to have the lowest inhibition rate for conidia germination of 28.2 and 20.8%, respectively. 3. While BAS 500, single active component preparation, showed inhibition rate of 48.296, BAS 516 and 536, combined formulations of BAS 500, showed inhibition rate of 65.496, indicating that combined formulations had the higher inhibitory effect than did single active component preparation. 4. Even though BAS 510, another single active component preparation, had the higher inhibitory effect than did BAS 500, BAS 516 and 517, combined formulations of BAS 510, showed inhibition rates of 65.4 and 86.396, respectively, indicating that combined formulations had the lower inhibitory effect than did single active component preparation. 5. In greenhouse experiment, Strobilurin fungicides showed relatively higher preventive effect for powdery mildew. 6. BAS 490 had the lowest preventive and curative effects among the formulations tested in this study. 7. Fenarimol showed preventive effect for about 3 weeks, but this effect disappeared. Fenarimol also did not have curative effect. 8. BAS 500, single active component preparation, appeared to have relatively low preventive and curative effects, which were similar to BAS 490. 9. Compared to BAS 490 and 500, BAS 510 had higher preventive effect and the effect remained during the experimental period. And BAS 510 also tend to have higher disease control efficacy for powdery mildew. 10. BAS 536, a combined formulation of BAS 490 and 500, showed similar preventive and curative effects to each single active ingredient preparations. 11. BAS 516 and 517, combined formulations of BAS 510, showed relatively higher preventive and curative effects on powdery mildew in oriental melon.
