Study on the Resin, Crosslinking-Blowing Atent, Additives, and Porcessing Conditions for the Establishment of Shoe Midsole Blowing Technology원문보기

Both ethylenevinylacetate(EVA) and polyurethane(PU) show highly excellent material properties for the application of shoe midsole and also inferior properties depending upon the product of application. The application of PU is restricted in case of the white colored product because PU is easily discolored to yellow color when exposed to the sunlight. Also PU has many problems such that its water-resistant property is lowered due to the hydrolysis in the end product and the production of lightweight products is relatively difficult. On the other hand, EVA is widely used as a shoe midsole material because it shows the excellence of mechanical properties such as elastic modulus and it is applied for the lightweight shoe whose specific gravity is lowered through the blowing process. The EVA blowing foam used in shoes products such as midsole has low specific gravity and its manufacturing cost is also decreased due to using lighter vapor than material itself. EVA blowing foam is used in high quality sports shoes due to the improved cushion property absorbing strong impact against human body. The general manufacturing process of EVA blowing foam is first to add crosslinking agent, blowing agent and other additives to the resin and then to make sheet. The sheet then is placed inside the hermetic mold. After decomposing crosslinking agent and blowing agent in the sheet through the press molding process with the duration time of 30-40 minutes under the high temperature and high pressure, the momentary mold opening operation brings about discharge of pressure and it makes the sheet expand due to the difference of pressure. This is called the first press process, which produces blowing foam having soft air bubble. After a series of the skiving using skiving machine and cutter, trimming, and grinding operation, the blowing foam is put into the mold and is pressed under 150-160"C for 5-15 minutes. Then, it is again pressed under 5-20'c for 10-20 minutes and repressed in order to finally obtain midsole with desired shape. However, this molding process needs not only two steps of pressing processes but also complex operational processes such as skiving, cutting, trimming, and grinding. It causes a lot of manufacturing time, the increase of manufacturing cost, and also needs a lot of manpower. EVA injection molded foaming grade for midsole is now being developed in order to eliminate the disadvantages of press molding process. It shows superior physical properties to existing EVA press molded foam and much lower material loss rate. The material loss rate of the press molded sponge products is around 40-50%, while it is 20-30% in case of the injection molding process. Moreover, the injection molding process makes a manufacturing process simple and its production efficiency is increased much more. The main and final objective of this study is to suggest an important technical alternative for achieving the high value-added domestic shoes industry by carrying out the study on the physical properties of EVA resin, additives, crosslinking agent, and blowing agent, and the mechanical properties of hardness, tensile strength, and compression set with respect to the midsole material.
