The elapsed researches on the rice-planting folk songs have been made only in the field of partial reference to the sexual features of women. On the other hand, it has been passed over that the lifestyle of women is well reflected in rice-planting folk songs on the spot. It requires systematical study of woman conscience through the rice-planting folk songs. My purpose of this thesis, therefore, is as much to inquiry into woman conscience by examination of the sexual expressions and meanings, the expressions of the instinct of maternal recurrence, and the relationship between storytellers and their families, focusing on the rice-planting folk songs. The sexual expressions in the rice-planting folk songs are classified with wealth-praying sex and pleasure-pursuing sex. Because sexual acts performed by men and women could attribute to increase labor force, the rice-planting workers prayed the prolificity and abundance, the common factors of these two acts. Especially, women have been recognized as the most symbolic feature of prolificity and abundance in agricultural society. Such the recognition seems to be revealed in their rice-planting songs. Sexual expressions related with women and proper disposition of nature materials, eventually, played a role to pray the extreme productivity. Based on composition and singing of these kinds of songs, it can be inferred to be affected by cultural background to connect sex and production. The songs, also, usually put the importance on women themselves rather than their roles. Women in the songs represent their positive and open-hearted temper unimaginable in the their Confucian time. The expressions are not metaphorical or symbolic, but very straightforward. The instinct of maternal recurrence of women is also divided into life-intention and self-actualization. The maternal instinct represented in the rice-plating folk songs can be divided into two following things: (1) life-intention: directly related with the life of their offspring. (2) self-actualization: satisfied with desires for the repressed self-actualization of women. These desires are fundamentally based on basic instinct, a primary instinct irrelevant to social condition. Although women are limited to have their social position under Confucian time, they tried to implement a desire to entry into social sphere through their offspring. They seemed to have a kind of satisfaction by promoting their offspring as a breach against what made their social advance impossible systematically. The relationships between storytellers and their families are classified with affirmative and negative relationship. Women solved the confrontation and conflict in their family and even love with songs. The family could be divided into four types of relationship such as mother and son, father and son, father and daughter and brother and sister. The confrontation in relationship between mother and son, mother and daughter and father and son was not recognized generally, but still affirmative. The conflict in the relationship between mother and daughter, however, was well perceived. Moreover, the relationship with their husbands family was so important. A number of their husbands family gave them anguish and trials in negative interrelationship while most of the family in the home of their birth were affirmative to them. Their husbands family was pictured as a feature that added an extra weight on their life. That is usual conflict type revealed in almost every literary work. Also the conflict between concubines, socially proven, was not easily ignored. The existence of concubines was assumed to be threatening enough for women as being same homogeneity to undergo bitter trials.
