Traditional retrieval tools have been designed for searching with key words, so the indexes and descriptors were made in the shape of a noun or a noun phrase. As the amount of the information which can not be controlled by human is increasing, it is impossible to search a new type of information efficiently with such a dated tools. If adjectives are taken as a kind of descriptor, we can search a new type of information, such as sounds, images, colors, and pictures. Therefore, the usage of adjectives as descriptors is necessary for indexing information with objectivity, coherence, and for searching multimedia information whose quantity is increasing day by day. This study is to construct the color thesaurus which makes the object the meaning of a color from various emotions. Considering the relationship of human emotions and the meaning of color terms. We need the constructing program which can check the appearance of the similar terms, classes, and its relationships for the complete organization of the thesaurus. We applied those basic function to this study and designed the program for only constructing the emotional thesaurus which is able to organize various emotional meanings into a category system at the same time. This study carried out a series of examination for constructing the thesaurus based on color, and the results are as following: 1) The domestic established word list for searching information consists nouns usually. Therefore, we can hardly find the searching words made with adjectives in the list. 2) The form of users' question sentences which they input in the system has changed from using the simple searching method with key word and Boolean queries into using the natural language queries. The question sentences for searching mainly consists nouns, compound nouns, and noun phrases. In the case of using the compound nouns, we can find that the adjectives finely limit the concept of key word. 3) Emotions can be recognized differently by region, space and time. Also, the experienced knowledge can interpret the meaning of a concept variously. 4) Thus the color, one of the representative emotions, can change the meaning by any such knowledge. The result of this study can be used as the important basic materials for constructing the searching system based on concepts from emotions. However, we can not confirm what the exact rate of searching efficiency from this program is because we have not carried out the experiment with this result, yet. And an extensive examination on related items are needed to organize the thesaurus which contains the proper number of descriptors and the various kinds of adjectives on color.
