The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between A/B behavior type and adjustment to school life and between optimistic type and stress. In order to accomplish the purpose, the study problems are determined as follows; 1. How does the A/B character type influence on stress and adjustment to school? 2. How does the optimistic type influence on stress and adjustment to school? 3. How does the stress influence on adjustment to school? 4. What is the relationship between stress and variables and what kind of model is made by A/B behavior type, optimistic type, stress, and adjustment to school? To examine the questions I surveyed 5 middle school students at 4 girls' middle schools and 4 boys' middle schools and 262 high school students at 4 girls' high schools and 4 boys' high schools. - female students : 450 and mate students : 403. I referred to Optimistic type model by Lee Soo-sik(1998), questionaire on measuring the level of stress by Kim Yong-bok(2000), questionaire on adjustmetn to school by Kim Yong-Lae(1993), questionaire behavior types by Framigam With middle and high school students in the subject of the study, Study task 1, 2 explores what effect the A/B behavior type and optimistic type has on stress level and school life by checking the difference between average and standard deviation. Study task 3, explores what effect stress has on school life by using more analytical methods. In study task 4, analysed cause-and-effect model by finding out how relative facts influence on adjustment to school. According to the results of this study. behavior type and optimistic type have a meaningful effect on adjustment to school but stress is only affected by behavior type and optimistic type. It was revealed that the more students' type is A/B behavior type and optimistic type, the higher students' adjustment level. In regard to stress, A behavior type is more stress prone in school life family life and general relationship than B behavior type. In the analysis of cause-and-effect model among variables, each variable mutually has a direct effect but has no indirect effect through a mediator. The following results were obtained: 1. A/B behavior type has a meaningful effect on stress and adjustment to school. It can be predicted by the direct influence. This, In order to help with students' adjustment to school, teachers should make an effort to analysis students' behavior type and relieve stress with which they can experience on the base of the behavior analysis. 2. Optimistic type is not influenced by stress and good at fnishing into school. It can be predicted by the direct influence. The reason is that optimistic type is more powerful to cope with stress. This, to help students to adjust to school, it is necessary to analyse students' optimistic type and help pessimistic type students have optimistic type through various educational activities. 3. Stress has a partial effect on adjustment to school and it can be checked through partial correlation among variable. It was revealed that the major sources of stress mast strongly affecting school adjustment are from people-to-people relationship and students' surroundings. So, to help with students' adjustment to school. it is necessary to help students form a desirable people-to-people relationship and relieve stress from students' surroundings. And It can be pointed out that another affecting school adjustment is directly related to school life, relationship with friends, the level of adjustment to surroundings. So extra attention should be paid to these catagories. 4. Behavior type and optimistic type has a direct effect on stress and adjustment but there is no indirect effect to act as a go-between. Various factors affecting school adjustment are not the same in the way how those factors have an effect on school adjustment but all those different factors have a direct effect, therefore it is desirable to consider all three different factors not all together at a time but separately.
