I collected the Philippine woman cases as a data in this research regarding a couple discord and an adaptation . With these analyzed data I could see conflict causes and influences in their families which come from international marriage variables including worldwide peculiarity, socio-demographic variables, psychological variables and general life variables. Consequently, not only am I able to give them answers to live well in Korean society but want to share the data with social service agencies concerned in the problem.
As a way to get the outcome, I have gathered the materials about the couples for three years from 2001. The women dwell in Jeol Ra province covering Gwangju city and have experience to live in social service facilities where YWCA counseling center manages for the women suffering from domestic violence. In the course of that, I had an interview with them in depth while using active interviewing method. Let me summarize it according to the referred variables.
Firstly, in the aspect of international marriage variables they usually came to get married through the religious organization called 'Tong Il Gyo'. When the Philippine get introduced to Korean male by the organization, they have no chance to choose the bride. That's unsatisfactory to them from the time. And in another case through broker agency they have to stand the commission. Even the acquired information of the spouse before marriage was not so exact that the conflict was serious. In the case of matchmaking it's not heavy to the commission but negatively the inaccurate information also influences on their marriage life. Moreover, Some differences from each culture could be burdened only to Fhilipino women. They have to learn Korean way of life including tradition and language. That can be oppressed enough to leave home. and most of couples have over 10 years difference in age . It appears in school career too. Their husbands' occupations are farmer or worker for a day to live in most cases. Because of the situation their lifes are so unstable financially that it makes conflict between them.
Secondly, focusing on the general life variables of conflict, their husbands or parent-in-law manages family finances. It is natural that the women extremely complain of the situation. And the husband cannot make enough money to satisfy the spouse. As time goes by like this, the discontent was piled up in their mind. Futhermore, a feud was getting worse in relationship with parent-in-law. All the women want to live apart from the husband's family. The discrepancy also appears in frame of mind fostering children. The wife prefer the liberated way while the husband deals with children by force. These differences causes conflict between them.
Lastly, here it is about the psychological variables of conflict. Generally speaking, Korean males probably likes to feel love something like that from their family but they are unfamiliar with expressing what they feel from the bottom of their heart. Sometimes it would be rough, aggressive and harsh. Seeing husband's behavior, the wife is frustrated enough to think of divorce. In addition, the personality of husband tend to be self-righteous so that it is easy to be angry at what the wife says and thinks. This variable also raises conflict.
On the basis of this study, we need to find the various ways to go together in the current situation of globalization. To help foreign women fit into Korean society, we should protect their human rights and furnish social welfare services. And cooperating with the government, local autonomy and local residences it has to be carried out to make them go along with as a women consisting of the community.
