We studied on catalyst activation of Ni metal using HY-zeolite as main supporter for carbon dioxide reforming. At first, we investigated the effect of reaction temperature in the range 300 to 700 oC, As increasing reaction temperature, CH4 and CO2 conversions were increased, and we obtained conversions more than 80% above 700 oC. Secondly, we investigated the effect of Ni loading on HY-Zeolite supporter. As Ni loading was increased, catalyst activation was increased, and it showed that Ni loading of 13wt% was highest catalyst activation. Thirdly, to investigate the effect of supporters, we compared catalyst activation of Ni metal on HY-zeolite, γ-Al2O3 and SiO2 supporters. HY-zeolite supporter was shown the highest intial conversion of CH4 and CO2, but it showed faster deactivation than γ-Al2O3 supporter. But, it maintained CH4 conversion more than 80% after 24hr reaction. Finally, to improve catalyst activity and deactivation due to coking on 13 wt% Ni supported HY-zeolite catalyst. we studied the effect of promoters by adding Mg, Mn, K, and Ca metal of 5wt%. We obtained that Mg metal promotor was shown the highest catalyst activity and less deactivation compared with Mn, K and Ca metal after 24hr reaction. Also, we confirmed that optimum Mg addition was 5wt%. Ni supported HY-zeolite catalyst added 5wt% Mg was shown relatively high CH4(85%) and CO2(82%) conversion in spite of 96hr reaction. Also, we observed that the main reason of deactivation on Ni supported HY-zeolite catalyst in CO2 reforming was carbon deposition, which was shown to be whisker type with a Ni particles by SEM. It brought out the slow deactivation of catalyst.
