ABSTRACT A study of Eurhythmics reflected on Dance Saim-mul, Jang Department of Dance Education Gruate School, Kong Ju National University This dissertation relates to the research of Emil Jacque-Dalcrozes eurhythmics, and the results of the study are as follows. Emil Jacque-Dalcrozes eurhythmics which included the important factors of music and rhythm was influenced by gymnastic rhythmic that formed the trend derived from gymnastics and dance, and was created under a new theory called rhythmic movements which acted out the motions physically. The distinctions that appear in eurhythmics are as follows: First, eurhythmics emphasizes rhythmic movements that appear as visualization through motions and gestures, and such visualizations are full of rhythmical elaborateness and harmonic structures. Second, eurhythmics emphasizes the spiritualization that harmonizes the mind and body at the same time as when the rhythm embodies the spirit. Third, the tempo, length, dynamics, tone, and pitch are considered as important for the expression of clear rhythm, and a variety of motions such as running, skipping, stretching, punching, jumping and swinging are included. Fourth, the word kinesthesia was used for his theory of movement to teach lively and good rhythm by the movement of the body. Fifth, Emil Jacque-Dalcroze emphasizes the principle of relaxation and tension in his eurhythmics by asserting the repetitive practice of relaxation and tension as the best method that enhances the function and development of muscles. Finally, Emil Jacque-Dalcrozes eurhythmics has influenced the dances of the times, and those who have been influenced are Vaslav Nijinsky, Marie Rambert, Hanya Holm, Ruth St. Denis, Doris Humphrey, Rudolf von Laban, and Isagawa Danjuro, Ito Michiro, and Koyama Nikun from Japan. They have studied at Emil Jacque-Dalcrozes Institute of Emil Jacque-Dalcroze to graft musical visualization, and the principle of tension and relaxation to their dances. This is definitely expressed in their works and they have established their system of dance based on Emil Jacque-Dalcrozes theory. Moreover, Emil Jacque-Dalcroze has laid the cornerstone in developing expressionism of the 20th century. In conclusion, Emil Jacque-Dalcroze has created a new system that valued a rhythm called eurhythmics and developed it to have strong influence to many other choreographers to the point that there were almost no artists that did not go through his school and the number of those who were influenced by him are countless. Because the idea of movement was so far spread at the last years of the century, it has affected not only the related areas, but also to the far detached ideology of mankind. The appearance of Emil Jacque-Dalcroze was an evidence of such, and Emil Jacque-Dalcrozes influence created a vein in which the complicated relationship between American, Europe and German roots of dances were all combined as one by his theory that had influenced dance, the dancer, and the audience
