The computer games industry emerges as the most lucrative and innovative digital entertainment market in the world, utilizing a variety of technology channels to present games to consumers. The newest of these entertainment technologies is mobile telecommunications. Mobile games add immense value to mobile contents services and applications portfolios. With reliable wireless networks and high-tech handsets, the mobile games expand the new opportunities and promise a substantial improvement in profitability for content developers and distributors. Mobile Games offer a way for operators and industry players to drive new revenue streams, taking advantage of the potential of wireless consumer applications and service offerings. Mobile games, like any other types of computer game, offer a unique value for users in providing an exciting digital experience in virtual worlds. Players can become empowered through the development of new characters and strategies within games to achieve rewarding successes against the computers and other players. Mobile games can be delivered to the user in a variety of ways. At the most basic level, games can be embedded directly into the handset. These games are simple and easy to play, but the expanding memory and processing power shall increase the potential for providers to develop more complicated and innovative ones. But the largest portion of revenue comes from downloadable games services, which deliver games over packet date or circuit switched connections for storage and use on the handset. In the near future, wireless versions of mass multiplayer games will be emerged as another source of revenue for network operators and contents providers. These games will have a highly interactive wireless element, either being played directly over a real time wireless connection, or incorporating wireless messaging and downloads, etc. Any category of mobile games, to be successful, need to be easy to play, but compelling, addictive and challenging enough to keep players to purchase new version of downloadable games. The key elements for success can be different for types of players and game categories. But several common elements can be identified to define how enjoyable, entertaining and additive a game can be to the players. For instance, the graphics, sound and animation should be enjoyable, and game itself is easy to play. A game with a lousy interface will quickly fail in the mobile environment. But games should be sufficiently challenging, so that players are not tired of them quickly and come back for another version of games to purchase. Optimum level increases provide extra challenges as players' skill develops and some types of rewards provides a sense of satisfaction to the players. In this thesis, we use the extended version of Technology Acceptance Model to explain the factors affecting the use of the mobile games in Korea. Based on data collected from a questionnaire survey, we test a set of the hypotheses. In this regard, we attempt to gain an understanding of the factors influencing the usage and acceptance of the mobile Internet games in Korea. We use the Technology Acceptance Model which has been widely used and empirically validated in explaining why individuals use or do not use a particular information technology. Based on the review of Technology Acceptance Model literature, we propose a research model in an attempt to explain differences in usage of mobile gamest by the current users. We use subjective norms, self-efficacy, facilitating conditions or supports, the contents of game itself, and perceived enjoyment as the antecedents of perceived ease of use and perceive usefulness. We then apply regression analysis to test the research models and present implications for game developers and researchers. One major limitation of the present study lies in the representativeness of the sample, which limit the usefulness of our results. Despite this problem, the present study makes good contribution to theory and practice because there is societal consensus regarding the practical value of the mobile games and because there are few studies conducted to address the issue of mobile games.
