This thesis is to examine the characteristics of L. V. Beethoven's Piano Sonata focused on compositional techniques and musical styles appearing in Op.31 No.3 of the Sonata. Beethoven who is occupying an important position in Western music developed his musical talents through his piano sonatas. 32 Piano Sonatas which is even called the New Testaments, was composed through his whole life. Breaking away from classical forms, the music contains various features from the forms of classical sonata to the characteristics of romantic sonata including the handling of unified themes, new attempts in melody harmony unique style of development of in sonata form when Beethoven's works are divided into three periods, piano Op.31-3 No.18 belonges to the middle period. And it was composed of the four movements with allegro, scherzo, minvetto, and presto con fuoco. Movement Ⅰ and Ⅳ are in the form of sonata allegro, Movement Ⅱ in scherzo, and movement Ⅲ in minuet. After this music, minuet was not used in Beethoven's music any more. With regard to melody, themes and their motives were emphasized in the whole music, and melody is developed using sequence of 3rd and 4th interval. With regard to harmony, diminished 7th chord is used to express the composer's inside and modulation is quite easy. Characteristics in terms of rhythm are urgent dynamic rhythm, the movement of quick sixteenth notes and the 4-measure and 6-measure rhythmic structure of Tarantalla style, and the use of trill and staccato utilized the functional advancement of the piaNo. According to the result of this study, Op.31 No.3 Piano Sonata expresses the composer's beauty of maturity and retains classical features in structure, but is also contains vary progressive features full of wit, humor and lyricism.
