The purpose of this study was to understand physique and physical fitness characteristics for elementary school boys and furnish basic data for developing athletic movement ability program for health promotion by analyzing the characteristics of physique and physical fitness development in elementary school boys and establishment of physical fitness evaluation criteria. The subject of the study was 639 elementary school boys of 4, 5, 6 grade in Gyeongnam. They were measured height, weight, grip strength, 50m run, standing long jump, sit-ups, trunk flexion, 1000m run, and closed eyes foot balance. To analyze physique and physical fitness growth and development classified by age, this study used oneway ANOVA. Duncan was also used to exam significant difference result after the fact. Physical fitness evaluation criteria was established 75percentile. The result of this study are as follows. First, in case of height, weight showed significant difference as time was went as aged 11, 10, 9. Second, in case of grip strength, 50m run, standing long jump, sit-ups, and 1000m run had the tendency toward increasing as time was went as aged 11, 10, 9. Third, in case of trunk flexion had the tendency toward increasing aged between 9 and 10, but others were decreased between 10 and 11. Forth, in case of closed eyes foot balance had the tendency toward increasing aged between 9 and 10, but there were not significant difference. However, in aged between 10 and 11, closed eyes foot balance had the tendency toward increasing and there were significant difference. Fifth, when Physical Fitness Criterion was established by 75percentile, in the case of 4th grade boys grip strength was 16.30㎏, 50m run was 9.41sec., standing long jump was 159.00㎝, sit-ups was 37.00score, 1000m run was 344.25sec., closed eyes foot balance was 18.00sec., trunk flexion was 12.00㎝.
