Today volunteering works are being considered very significant in various fields such as politics, economy, economy and social welfare, emerging as an important part of national policies. Thus the purpose of this study is to propose ways of volunteering service promotion by examining motives and satisfaction about them on which a continuous, positive participation in volunteering works is deemed dependent. For the purpose, this researcher set the following research tasks. First, are there any differences in volunteers’ motives of volunteering work participation in accordance with their motive-need profile? Second, how about correlations between motives of volunteering work and volunteers’ behavioral continuation and positiveness? Third, what's the factor of volunteers’ personal characteristics that affect their motives of volunteering work? Fourth, what's the factor of volunteering service programs that affect volunteers’ motives of volunteering service participation? Fifth, are there differences in volunteers’ satisfaction about the motives in accordance with their motive-need profile? Sixth, how about any correlations between the degree of satisfaction of volunteering work motives and volunteers’ behavioral continuation and positiveness? Seventh, what's the factor of volunteers' personal characteristics that affect their satisfaction about volunteering work motives? Eighth, what's the factor of volunteering service programs that affect volunteers’ satisfaction about the motives? To accomplish these tasks, the researcher carried out a structured questionnaire survey of persons participating in volunteering services in Busan. Among the total 300 copies of the questionnaire distributed to them, 290 were finally collected and statistically processed through frequency analysis, ANOVA and correlation analysis under SPSS WIN 10.0 Program. These statistical analyses wer all carried out with significance levels of 1 and 5 percents. Results of the study can be described as below. First, persons surveyed here were most motivated by the factor of social contact to engage in volunteering works, followed by a somewhat altruistic factor, social responsibility expression. Second, there were low correlations between volunteers’ motives of volunteering work and their positive continuation of the work. This suggests that factors other than the motives are influencing whether volunteers continue to participate in such work with positiveness. Third, among volunteers’ personal characteristics, gender, age and employment status were found significantly influencing those volunteers’ motives of volunteering work participation. This suggests that the motives should be managed in accordance with those characteristics and that motive profiles need to be made and referenced in program or task allocations to volunteers. Fourth, persons surveyed here responded that they most often volunteered religious body services for their social responsibility expression and worked at volunteering service centers for their social exchange. Fifth, participants of the study responded that they were being more than moderately satisfied with all motives of volunteering work, except social exchange about which they showed a relatively low satisfaction. This suggests the need of developing a system that can supplement such low satisfied motive of volunteering work. Sixth, there were low correlations between volunteers’ satisfaction about motives of volunteering work and their continuation of the work with positiveness, suggesting the existence of factors other than the motives influencing volunteers’ continuous, positive participation in volunteering services. Seventh, correlations between volunteers’ personal characteristics and their motives of volunteering work participation were analyzed to find that gender, age and employment status had significant effects on the motives. This suggests the need of developing a supplementary system in accordance with those characteristics. Eighth, volunteers surveyed here found themselves least satisfied about social recognition as one of volunteering work motives if they were recommended by administrative agencies to participate in volunteering services.
