The purpose of this study was to develope cognitive-behavioral group counseling program for female high school students with high test anxiety and to examine the effectiveness of the program. This study consists of three stages. The first stage included the selection of contents and activities of the program and the organization of program contents. The second stage was to develope the program. The research of third stage has verified the effectiveness of the program. In the first stage of the research, it was examined the variables that had effects on test-anxiety in female high school students. The participants were 361 female high school students who are first grade(living in Daegu). They were surveyed by questionnaire. The survey was conducted from May. 22nd. to May. 29th. 2005. The instruments of measurement were TAI-K(Test Anxiety Inventory-Korea), Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, and Irrational Belief Test. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The findings of the first stage were as follows: 1) test anxiety showed positive correlation with perfectionism and irrational belief. 2) All inferior factors of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale showed positive correlation with test anxiety. The highest predictor of test anxiety in this scale was concern over mistakes(CM), followed by doubts about actions(DA) and parental criticism(PC). 3) All inferior factors of Irrational Belief Test except dependency and perfection solution showed positive correlation with test anxiety. The highest predictor of test anxiety in this scale was anxious overconcern, followed by personal perfection and helplessness. In the second stage of the research, the group counseling was developed based on the following procedures: research of related literature, imbodiment of intervention model, formulation of objectives, selection and organization of contents, selection of strategies and instruments, and application and evaluation of the program. The third stage of the research was to verify the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral group counseling program developed by the researcher. The 18 participants were within 25 percent of a high rank in three instruments and wanted to participate in the program. They were divided in two group, the treatment group and the control group by means of random sampling. The treatment group took part in group counseling program once a week for 90minutes per session over 7-week period(July. 4th - Aug. 19th. 2006, July. 31th - Aug 5th; one week summer vacation). The pre-test(July. 4th), the post-test(Aug. 19th), and the follow-up test(Sep. 19th) were implemented in order to verify the effectiveness of the program. The instruments used in the study were TAI-K, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, and Irrational Belief Test. The data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Test. The findings of the third stage were as follows: 1) There was a significant reduction in total score of test anxiety, perfectionism and irrational belief in the treatment group. Meanwhile the control group did not show any significant change in total score of test anxiety, perfectionism and irrational belief. 2) The program had significant influence in decreasing CM, DA, and PC in the treatment group. 3) The program had significant influence in decreasing anxious overconcern and personal perfection in the treatment group. In conclusion, this study showed that the cognitive-behavioral group counseling program needs to implement works of decreasing perfectionism and irrational belief in order to decrease test anxiety in female high school students. This program can have significant benefits to female high school students with high test anxiety. In the last part of this study, the suggestions, the limitations, and the direction of the further study were discussed.
