The language reflects culture of nations which change with the times. That is, changes of times and culture are accompanied by that of language. It is such "correlation" that the sociolinguistics is all about. The objective of the research is how Korean and Japanese are changed under the influence of "information society", an outstanding feature of contemporary history. In specific, paying attention to development of internet which best symbolizes the present information society, the research will deal with how the newly coined terms are created in the field of "chat", the central part of the internet communication. The significance of conducting such task would be some possible suggestions concerning the various ways for developing Japanese education, especially how to teach its newly coined terms. It is likely that the further advancement of the information society and expansion of internet communication will be followed by more active creation of newly coined terms, which increase an importance of the research and an general attention to such suggestion. Moreover, if we look at the actual increase of the absolute number of Korean who learn Japanese, widely-acknowledged very active creation of newly coined terms in Korea, and the rapid expansion of internet communication between Korea and Japan, it will be easy to guess that the more people who learn Japanese are interested in its newly coined terms in chat. For conducting such task, the research employs a comparative method by utilizing the studies on Korean newly coined terms, because the study on its Japanese counterpart has not developed yet, It targets newly coined terms appearing on chat and bulletin boards mainly, and on e-mails and text messages exchanged through cellar phones as supplement. The termed which are analyzed are selected though author's observation of their substantial usage in such internet communication and though some statistical materials. As a natural consequence, it reflects the culture of 10's 20's young people who are the main user of such tools of internet communication. As a result of analysis, the research confirms that there are similar patterns of creation of newly coined terms between Korean and Japanese. Those are omission, foreign borrowing, inflection, change of part of speech, pastime, Alphabetization, usage of expression symbols, and so on, In addition, it also confirms that there are particular patterns of that in Japanese such as exchange between Japanese-style reading and Chinese-style reading of chinese characters, transforming noun into verb, and so on. Important findings provided by such comparative analysis are twofold; firstly, both Korean and Japanese share the common tendency in which active creation of newly coined terms develop the "new and various diction," while that disorders the "existing grammar" as an inevitable effect; secondly, Korean and Japanese the cause that generate newly coined terms. That is, they are created when user wants "more effective, more unique and more realistic" expressions to convey his or her will to other user through internet communication. Without these positive functions would it be difficult to imagine th creation of newly coined terms in both Korean and Japanese.
