For 9 taxa of the Korean Elaeagnus, that is, E. umbellata, E. umbellata var. parvifoliad, E. umbellata var. coreana, E. glabra, E. macrophylla, E. maritima, E. nikaii, E. submacrophylla and E. multiflora, their morphological characters were examined to illustrate their taxonomical entities and to ma...
For 9 taxa of the Korean Elaeagnus, that is, E. umbellata, E. umbellata var. parvifoliad, E. umbellata var. coreana, E. glabra, E. macrophylla, E. maritima, E. nikaii, E. submacrophylla and E. multiflora, their morphological characters were examined to illustrate their taxonomical entities and to make a new key, and then they were rearranged. E. umbellata var. parvifoliad and E. umbellata var. coreana were clearly distinguished from the basic species in the repects that the former has no fimbriate scales on leaf surface and somewhat stiff leaf in texture, and that the latter has oblanceolate leaf in shape. E. maritima and E. glabra, all evergreen, were able to be apparently divided by leaf shape. Also, this study supported that E. submacrophylla had been treated as a synonym of E. macrophylla because of overlapping among major key characters such as leaf shape and color, flower and fruit shape, color of twigs and presence of fimbriate scales on abaxial leaf surface. E. nikaii, related species to E. macrophylla were recognized as a distinct species from the differences of leaf shape and twig color. This study resulted in that the Korean Elaeagnus was composed of 10 taxa in inclusion of the untreated 2 varieties of E. umbellata var. longicarpa and E. glabra var. oxyphylla, and 1 cultivar, E. multiflora.
