(The) Effects of the Teaching Games for Understanding Model on the Skill Improvement of Elementary School Students in Soccer원문보기

This study's purpose is to develop the problem-solving soccer teaching model applying the teaching games for understanding model and to verify and generalize its effects in order to suggest teaching techniques to improve the game skills to students in soccer and ways to improve the process-centered P.E. teaching model. For this study, I spent six weeks teaching 60 students in 2 classes at 'D' Elementary School in Seoul with objective and concrete material collecting and analysis. For the skills test, I took 5 basic skills at the elementary school level from the skills tests of Mok-soo Kim(2000) and 「Crew's Soccer Skill Test(Heung-hwan Paul 1994)」. I used the conversion method of Jean-Francis, Gaul Gadabout & Daniel Bouthier(1997) to measure the efficiency index and the amount of playing time. I also used the reconstructed evaluation forms of Kyo Koh(1994) and Kenyon(1968) to find out emotional changes and T-test to determine students' skill difference, affective change and difference of game perfoi nuance. The results were the following: First, the students of teaching games for understanding model showed higher average scores in 4 skills excluding zigzag dribbling out of 5 (zigzag dribbling, long distance kicking, dribbling & shooting, shooting, and lifting) and meaningful difference (p <.05). Second, the effect of teaching games for understanding model on the game performance in various simplified and transformed games showed meaningful difference in all the variables except shooting and mistakes. This result was due to the increased game time and experiences by providing various activities required in the games for understanding model. In the case of shooting, the simplified games allowed students greater opportunity to develop their skill sets because of the small size of the field Third, students' affective change (contentment during lessons and attitude for sports) marked high meaningful difference (p<.05) in every aspect such as learning accomplishment, will, interest, attitude, socialization and so on. This result depended on naturally built cooperative attitudes and interest for learning through group activities like students' self-initiated game-making, refereeing and recordings.
