Difference of weight gain between nicotine replacement therapy alone and nicotine replacement therapy with bupropion in men after 6 weeks with somking cessation원문보기

Background: The suppressive effect of bupropion for weight gain after smoking cessation was already known, but studies about whether the combination therapy of nicotine replacement therapy and bupropion has better suppressive effect for weight gain after smoking cessation than nicotine replacement therapy alone have been rare. The purpose of our study was to evaluate this subject with a domestic project for smoking cessation in Republic of Korea. Methods: 70 male had started smoking cessation from January in 2007, and succeeded in ceasing smoking for 5 months with visiting a smoking clinic of a health center in Pusan. The subjects were divided into two groups of nicotine replacement therapy alone and nicotine replacement therapy with bupropion therapy. Weight, body mass index, expiratory carbon monoxide amount and blood pressure of two groups were compared and analyzed. Results: The rates of increment of weight of two groups were the same(P<0.05). Negative correlation was represented between the average of weight at the 6th week and the averages of age and smoking term. Positive correaltion was represented between the average of number of cigarrettes and baseline weight. Conclusion: Nicotine replacement therapy alone and nicotine replacement therapy with bupropion therapy have the same rate of increment of weight after 6 weeks of smoking cessation.
