The behavior of piled raft in layered soil was investigated based on a numerical analysis using 3D finite element method. The emphasis was on quantifying the magnitude and distribution of the settlements and load sharing of a square piled raft due to major influencing parameters. To obtain the detailed information on the behavior of square piled raft, a series of numerical analysis were conducted for different. The pile positions, the pile number, the pile length as well as the soil profile and conditions.Based on the results obtained, it was shown that the average settlement was reduced effectively with wider spacing and longer piles in same number of piles. The differential settlement, however, was much more sensitive to the raft-soil stiffness ratio, soil conditions, soil layers and pile configurations than the average settlements. The axial load distributions of piled raft was dependent not only on the pile geometries and soil conditions related to bearing capacity but also on the load level. The pile load sharing increased with increasing pile numbers, pile length and increased with increasing pile spacing under the same pile numbers. For raft load sharing of layered soils, the raft load sharing of sand layers were relatively higher than those of clay layers and there were ranged between 5~65% for clay conditions and 20~70% for sand conditions. Also, the raft load sharing of upper stiff(dense) layer cases was similar to those of stiff(dense) one layer cases, for same pile configurations. Hence it was identified that the dependence of raft load sharing was mainly affected by the soil stiffness contact with raft.
