The leveling network is isolated from the leveling network in Korea peninsula. Therefore independent precise geoid determination is needed in Jeju island separately Korea peninsula. In this study, gravimetric precise geoid model was determined in Jeju island. The remove and restore method was applied to determine the precise geoid. The remove and restore method is that we "remove" from the observations gravity anomalies by using the regional effect computed from the Earth gravity model(EM or EGM), and after collocation "restore" the effect of the EM on the residual geoid computed from the residual gravity anomalies. Stokes integral technique was applied to calculate the residual geoid. The various gravity data was surveyed and cited to determined precise gravimetric geoid in and around Jeju island. The gravity measurements were carried out in Jeju island and the gravity survey was designed so that at least one measurement might exist in a square 1.5 km by 1.5 km. The GPS survey was also performed with gravity measurements to obtain high precision position information. Ship-borne gravity data observed from NORI(National Oceanographic Research Institute) was acquired and recom- puted so the high quality data could be obtained. Its RMS at cross-over point is 0.126 mgal. Sandwell and Smith(ver. 16.1) satellite altimetry data was used for the area not surveyed ship-borne gravity. Above all data were combined and gravity free-air anomalies were compiled in and around Jeju isnald. The free-air anomalies in studied area change from -2.409 mgal to 202.012 mgal, the free-air anomalies grow high as the height grow high. Geodial height at bench marks or well-known positions are used to determine the precise geoid for this, GPS survey was carried out at bench mark in Jeju island. But the leveling networks in Jeju are distributed in low-lying areas. The sprit leveling and trigonometric leveling was carried out to complement low-lying areas' leveling network along 99 state load through 1100 m height. Through this survey 92 points of GPS/leveling geoid height could be obtained. Orthometric corrections were applied with these data. The calculated orthometric correction quantity at the top of Halla Mt. is 30.12 cm and the height of Halla Mt. is 1946.63 m after orthometric correction. When the EGM96 geopotential model calculated to optimum degree and order 120 and integral cap radius 7 km was calculated to GPS/leveling geoid in optimum, the RMS was calculated as 0.252 m. Furthermore, In the height of change on residual geoid was from -0.149 m in minimum to 0.871 m in maximum and the change of width was calculated as from 21.882 m west to 27.124 m east by WGS 84. Using the data of EIGEN-GL04C surveyed and calculated by GRACE satellite the precise geoid was calculated to optimum degree and order 140 and integral cap radius 6 km and to confirm its accuracy, it was compared with GPS/leveling geoid. When the data were confirmed the difference of RMS was calculated as 0.242 m. The height of change on residual geoid was 0.123 m to 0.756 m in maximum and accurate geoid was 22.027 m to 28.090 m. The RMS compared with GPS/leveling geoid to 77 positions in Jeju was as followed; PNU95(0.329 m), NORI05(0.688 m), EGM96(0.252 m) and EIGN-GL04C(0.242 m). GPS/leveling was compared with accurate geoid of EGM96 geopotential model and EIGEN-GL04C geopotential model calculated in max. 360 degree and oder. The difference values were calculated as 0.571 m and 0.271 compared with GPS/leveling geoid to each of the EGM96 and EIGEN-GL04C in maximum degree and oder. Even though, there was about 0.3 m in the difference of RMS between the values of geoid calculated by optimum and maximum degree and order, there was not any significant difference value in the case of EIGEN-GL04C. As a result, the EIGEN-GL geopotential model showed the change of gravity in the study area well but in the case of calculating the accurate geoid without determining of optimum degree and order, it is more effective that using a newly developed model. In conclusion, through this study, the improved geoid in accuracy could be calculated in and around Jeju area. However, for developing a geoid model in a few cm, not only geopotential model but also accurate national criterion network should be complemented in advance. Furthermore, position information acquired by gravity survey and GPS should be measured and calculated in highly accuracy as well. For developing a more accurate geoid, constant gravity survey, addition of GPS/leveling data and study of geophysics should be studied continuously.
