This study tried to verify the perceptional differences between organizational culture and managers’ role as coach. In this research, organizational culture types of competing values framework by Cameron and R. Quinn(2006) and managerial coaching behavior measures by Ellinger, Ellinger and Keller(2003), which represents mangers as coach, were used. Questions raised and answered by this study are as follows: First, are there managerial coaching behavior differences among organizational cultures? Clan and Hierarchy cultures have positive association with managerial coaching behaviors perceived by employees and managers. In relation to competing values framework, the aforementioned clan and hierarchy cultures value internal interests of the organization. On the other hand, the other two organizational cultures focus on interests of the organization itself. The stress on internal interests of the organization means that the values of the organization underscore the members’, not the organization’s, well being and development. Second, what are the characteristics of managers’ coaching behaviors among organizational cultures? The perceived managers’ coaching behaviors under clan and hierarchy cultures indicate that there is no positive associations with managers’ coaching behaviors such as using analogies, scenarios and examples, broadening employees’ perspectives -getting them to see things differently, providing feedback to employees, and being a resource-removing obstacles. Third, are there managerial coaching behavior differences among organizational culture dimensions? Among six organizational culture dimensions, organizational leadership dimension is the most influential factor to the perception of employees’ managerial coaching behavior. Two other dimensions, management of employees and strategic emphases were perceived significantly with coaching behaviors by both employees and managers group. Fourth, are there perceptional differences on the managerial coaching behaviors between employees and managers? Managerial coaching behavior measures consist of eight items. The results show that all the managerial coaching behavior measures have significant perceptional differences between employee and manager groups. As the results suggested above, two HRD interventions can be derived from analyzed relations between organizational culture and managerial coaching behaviors. One is the macro aspect of implications for interventions in that stakeholders would try to direct organizations’ orientation toward internal interests at the organizational level. The first and third research questions and the results illustrate this point. At this point HRD should pay attention to organizational change interventions with using organizational development approach. The other is the micro aspect of implications for interventions in that HRD is to focus on changes and improvements of specific managerial coaching behaviors to activate and facilitate managers as coach for organizational effectiveness. The second and last research questions and the results are examples of departure from managerial development journey toward coach role. This study ultimately aimed to provide sound and adequate insight for researchers and practitioners in HRD through linking managers as coach with organizational culture that to help HRD professionals understand the organization comprehensibly.
