This study has aimed to figure out health behavior of bath therapy(full bath, half bath, foot bath) through a questionnaire survey on the public and analyzing change in body physiological reaction(total sweat volume, local sweat volume, blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature, sweat elements) and skin temperature after full bath, half bath, and foot bath. A questionnaire survey was conducted against 400 adults in C city over the period of May-June, 2006. Based on 346 questionnaires, the physiological change and skin temperature were measured against 8 college students (4 females, 4 males) after repeated foot bath, half bath, and full bath. The result has turned out as follows: In term of the general public's preference, a shower (52.3%) was the highest, followed by full bath (52.0%), half bath (31.8%), cold rubdown or cold bath (19.1%), sauna (15.0%), and foot bath (9.0%). When asked why they were taking a bath, sanitation turned out the highest, followed by recuperation, habit, healthcare, beauty care, stress relief, disease relief, and pain relief. In terms of an effect of bath, 'recuperation' was pointed out the highest, followed by 'health improvement', 'stress relief', 'skin care', and 'disease and pain relief'. When asked which one they think the best bath is for health, 'full bath (48.3%)' turned out the highest, followed by 'half bath (43.9%),' and 'foot bath (7.8%).' In terms of total and local sweat volume, full bath turned out the highest, followed by half bath and foot bath. In terms of fluctuation of systolic blood pressure, pulse rate and body temperature, full bath turned out the highest, followed by half bath and foot bath. When the amount of Na^(+), Cl^(-), K^(+), SO₄^(2-), Mg^(2+), and Ca^(2+) has been compared among perspiration elements (electrolytes) by bath methods, full bath turned out the highest, followed by half bath and foot bath in case of Na^(+), Cl^(-) and K^(+). The skin temperature ranged from 31℃ to 38℃ while the maximum temperature was measured in the body under water. In terms of the average temperature of the foramina in meridian, foot bath was 33.57℃, half bath 34.86℃ and full bath 35.78℃. In terms of the leading sinartery in meridian, on the contrary, foot bath was 34.04℃, half bath 34.99℃ and full bath 35.86℃. As shown above, people have preferred full bath, followed by half bath and foot bath. In terms of changes in vital signs, electrolyte loss, and the blood circulation by distribution of skin temperature, full bath has also turned out the highest, followed by half bath and foot bath. In terms of health improvement effect, the respondents pointed out full bath, followed by half bath and foot bath as well. However, the result could turn out differently depending on gender, age, bathing temperature, bathing time, and disease. Therefore, a further study on health improvement effect by bath method depending on disease needs to be conducted. Besides, proper public health education has to be followed.
