The effect of annealing condition on mechanical properties and microstructures were studied in cold drawn pearlitic steel wires containing 0.84wt% Si. The increase of tensile strength at low temperature was related with ageing hardening behavior. The decrease of tensile strength at high annealing temperature was related with spherodization of cementite and the occurrence of recovery of the lamellar ferrite in the pearlite. The improvement of ductility was connected with spherodization of cementite plate in pearlite and recovery process by reduction of high dislocation density at short time annealing temperature of 400℃ To investigate the mechanism of strain ageing, thermal analysis using DSC was performed. The mechanisms for the first and second stages were found as the diffusion of carbon atoms to dislocations and the decomposition of cementite. The effect of annealing condition and silicon content on mechanical properties of cold drawn pearlitic steel wires was investigated. Cold drawn steel wires, containing Si, 0.99~1.4wt% were annealed. The variation of microstructural evolution with annealing condition was not affected by silicon content. For steels containing high silicon content above 1.0%, the increase of silicon content did not cause the changes of peak temperature showing ageing hardening and ageing softening, except for the increase of tensile strength due to solid solution hardening. The effect of annealing condition and drawing strain on the occurrence of the delamination in cold drawn hyper-eutectoid steel wires, were investigated. Annealing was performed on cold drawn steel wires for temperature range of 425℃~500℃ with the variation of annealing time from 30sec to 15min. The increase of annealing temperature and time would cause the decrease of tensile strength and the increase ductility. However, the occurrence of the delamination, representing torsional ductility, showed the different way from the variation of ductility. Delamination occurs in annealing condition which was observed the ageing hardening and ageing softening.
