The purpose of this study was to confirm the effect of stretching, muscle strength exercise program on idiopathic scoliosis of the youth. Twelve subjects(6 male, 6 female) volunteered to participate in the study. All subjects were divided into two groups(control group, stretching, muscle strength exercise program group). The exercise program consisted of stretching, muscle strength, and ball exercise. The stretching, muscle strength exercise program was performed three times week for 8 weeks. Before and after experiment Cobb's angle, flexible, and height was measured. The following results were obtained; The Cobb's angle of thoracic vertebra was significantly decreased in the stretching, muscle strength exercise program group. Lumbar Cobb's angle was significantly decreased in the stretching, muscle strength exercise program, too. The correction ratio of lumbar vertebra was significantly increased in the stretching, muscle strength exercise program group, too. The height was significantly increased in the stretching, muscle strength exercise program group. In this study, it was found that the stretching, muscle strength exercise program was effective to improve idiopathic scoliosis of the youth.
