Serious social problem by aging which comes from fast increase of old age population in South Korea. The upgrade of living standard by high technology industry and the development of medicine made the average span of life has been longer than before. Therefore disease in old age was also increased, especially the number of senile dementia patients.As it is difficult for the patients with senile dementia to lead normal living independently, their dependancy on families and society is higher. However, as social change such as increase of working women and nuclear families happened, there is a limit to support of the patients with senile dementia by their families. So, the senile dementia was raised as a serious social problem beyond family one. This study intended to identify the current state of the senile dementia using bibliography and the Internet network. And it compared our senile dementia service programs with foreign ones. As a result, this study presented service improvement programs for the patients of senile dementia as follows First, the service facilities and professional human esources for the patients are needed. In our country, most of the facilities and welfare service are provided only for the needy people and low-income class. More facilities are needed, but due to low budget for the service, proper care for the patients is not provided. So, more facilities for the senile dementia patients should be prepared and service barriers should be abolished. Related staffs should be reinforced and more training for them should be available. Second, financial, physical and psychological support should be provided for the families who are exhausted due to care of patients. As many patients prefer home care to care at service facilities, burden to the families is increasing. Therefore, financially, medical care Insurance systems should be improved. Physically, staying-home care for the patients should be expanded, and psychologically, regular meetings, resort areas or counseling service for the families should be provided. Third,, it is needed to reinforce the social support service system on the level of national health and welfare, We should establish more active measures to adequately manage patients of senile dementia as social support is lacking. Fourth, a precise dementia knowledge basic be established. An incorrect understanding that dementia cannot be cured may deteriorate the quality of life of the patients and their families. Fifth, in order for social support service system for patients of senile dementia to be smoothly functioned, first of all, active public relations should be reinforced for dementia support projects. Finily, the government needs to initiatively promote the policy to expand facility protection services ,introduce welfare services of demential patients supporters such as home service, dementia specialized hospital, care facilities that gradually increasing old people dementia patients and their families can use proper diagnosis, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation because of limited service for demential patients.
