This study is intended to relate elementary school students' after-school activities and school life. This study has started the belief that schools still have duties to do even after the students finish their class and return home. thus, this study attempts to find out the relation between elementary school students' various behaviors in class and after-school activities. Therefore, following research problems are formulated for this study. First, what are elementary school students' after-school activities like? Second, what's the relation between after-school activities and school life? First of all, the Korean situation of after-school activities was studied to solve these research problems. The Korean private education market is gradually getting varied and bagger. The researcher's class is not exceptional: Twenty eight out of thirty students are doing after-school activities. This study has revealed that the kinds and time of after-school activities are varied and they are doing after-school activities averagely 2-3 hours per day. These students were classified into three groups one who doesn't do after-school activities (Type A), one who participates in varied and long-time after school activities (Type B), and one who participates in hobby-intensive activities(Type C) and their school lives were compared with each other. According to the study, Type A didn't have any interest in learning and took more negative attitudes toward learning, rather than positive ones. In other words, this type lacked attention during the class, preparation for learning, enthusiasm for homework, curiosity, and creativeness. This type didn't well cooperate with other classmate during the class. This type was actively and free only during the break and lunch time. The students in Type B made good marks at school but didn't have good learning attitudes. They didn't mostly have good expectation for class and often pay no attention to class. They gave prominence to the result, rather than processes of learning. They suffered from psychological conflict between homework from private academy and school and hung on the homework of a private academy during the break or lunch time. And they stuck performance-based evaluation or test results. On the contrary, the students who were classified into Type C and enjoyed their spare time in the afternoon made good marks at school, paid much attention to class, and faithfully did their homework. As they were strongly curious and inquisitive, they were excellent in self-directed learning. Also, they spent their afternoon on meaningful activities such as reading and enjoyed their leisure time for themselves. However, they showed negative opinions toward team-based activities and strong antipathy against passive participants. While the necessity for education for the whole man is emphasized, after-school activities are limited to intellectual ability and inciting competition among students. It is believed that it is urgent to prepare various programs for education for the whole man at school, the community, and home. To achieve this goal, followings are required. First, in-depth analysis should be conducted for elementary school students' after-school activities according their individual difference. Second, concerns and studies of parent education programs are required instead of urging them to manage their time well.
