The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes of foot pressure by various carrying a pack methods during walking. The subjects were consisted of normal fourty four persons (30 males and 14 females). They were from 20 to 35 years old and the mean age was 283.82. The carrying a pack methods were classified into five conditions: carrying no bag(condition 1), carrying a backpack(condition 2), carrying a shoulder bag(cndition 3), carrying a cross bag(condition 4), carrying a one-hand bag(condition 5). All subjects were participated in these five condition and measured foot pressure by F-scan system during walking. To evaluate foot pressure the foot was divided into 7 areas: hallux, toe, 1st metatarsal head(Met1), 2nd & 3rd metatarsal head(Met2/3), 4th & 5th metataral head(Met4/5), mid foot and heel. Then foot contact time, foot contact area, foot contact length and width, trajectory of center of pressure(COP), peak pressure of each foot area, force-time integral and relative impulse of each foot area were measured and analyzed. The repeated one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to get difference between conditions and independent t-test was used to get difference between left and right foot within condition. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. In the comparison of parameters of foot, contact time, contact area and mid foot width were significantly different between conditions(p<.05), and in both foot contact time at condition 5 showed the most significant reduction(p<.05). 2. In the comparison of parameters of foot between left and right foot within condition, every conditions were not significantly different(p>.05). 3. In the comparison of parameters of the trajectory of COP between conditions, anteroposterior diatance and mediolateral distance in the left foot and mediolateral distance in the right foot were not not significantly different(p>.05), but anteroposterior diatance in the right foot was significantly different(p>.05). 4. At condition 1 and 2 the mediolateral distance of COP in the left foot was significantly more longer than right foot(p<.05) but anteroposterior distance at condition 1 and 5, anteroposterior distance and mediolateral distance of COP at condition 2, 3 and 4 were not significantly different(p>.05). 5. The peak pressure in hallux, 1st metatarsal head, 2nd & 3rd metatarsal head, 4th & 5th metatarsal head and heel in the left foot were significantly different between conditions(p<.05), and The peak pressure in hallux, toe, 1st metatarsal head, 2nd & 3rd metatarsal head, mid foot and heel in the left foot were significantly different between conditions(p<.05). 6. At condition 5 the peak pressure in toe in the right foot was significantly higher than left foot(p.05). 7. The force-time integral in 1st metatarsal head, 2nd & 3rd metatarsal head, 4th & 5th metatarsal head, heel and the total force-time integral in the left foot were significantly different(p<.05) between conditions(p<.05). And The force-time integral at hallux, toe, 2nd & 3rd metatarsal head, 4th & 5th metatarsal head, heel and the total force-time integral in the right foot were significantly different between conditions(p.05). The force-time integral in mid foot at condition 2, hallux and toe at condition 3 and condition 5 were significantly different between left and right foot(p<.05). And at condition 4 toe, 1st metatarsal head, 4th & 5th metatarsal head and mid foot were significantly different between left and right foot(p.05), but the relative impulses in 1st metatarsal head, 2nd & 3rd metatarsal head, 4th & 5th metatarsal head and heel were significantly different between conditions(p<.05). 10. In the comparison of relative impulse between left and right foot within condition, mid foot at condition 2, hallux and 1st metatarsal head at condition 3 were significantly different (p<.05). At condition 4 toe, 1st metatarsal head, 4th & 5th metatarsal head and mid foot were significantly different (p<.05) and hallux, toe, 1st metatarsal head at condition 5 also were significantly different (p<.05). According to the preceding study asymmetric load of pack by carrying methods changed the posture of trunk and limbs. Also in this study various carrying methods changed the foot pressure and showed significant difference in some areas of foot between carrying methods. However, asymmetric load of pack by carrying methods didn't affected symmetry of foot pressure between left and right foot.
