Among domestic traditional music, a sanjo is an excellent instrumental solo music which is equipped with formal beauty. Among sanjos, gayageum sanjo was formed for the first time and therefore its melodic makeup, technique and school development are more diverse than any other sanjos. Seong Geum-ryeon school's gayageum sanjo consists of such movements as jinyangjo, jungmori, jungjungmori, gutgeori, jajinmori, hwimori and eotmori. Among them, the investigator examined the jinyangjo movement in this study. The jinyangjo movement of Seong Geum-ryeon school's gayageum sanjo is classified into u-jo movement, pyeong-jo movement, and gyemyeon-jo movement. The investigator analyzed the changes of cheng and jo which were taken place within each melody as well as used scales and vocal sounds. Study findings are as follows: First, as for the melodic patterns which consist of jinyangjo movement of Seong Geum-ryeon school's gayageum sanjo, u-jo movement consists of 34 jangdans; pyeong-jo movement, 4 jangdans; and gyemyeon-jo movement, 123 jangdans. Second, as for the changes of jo, which are taken place in the jinyangjo of Seong Geum-ryeon school's gayageum sanjo: In case of u-jo movement, four mutual exchanges of jo are taken place, such as from e boncheng gyemyeon scale to a boncheng gyemyeon scale, from a boncheng gyemyeon scale to d boncheng gyemyeon scale, from d boncheng gyemyeon scale to g boncheng gyemyeon scale, and from B^(♭) u-jo melody to g boncheng gyemyeon-jo melody; in case of pyeong-jo movement, there is only a G boncheng pyeong-jo melody; and in case of gyemyeon-jo movement, there are two mutual exchanges of jo, such as from g boncheng gyemyeon-jo to d boncheng gyemyeon-jo, and g boncheng gyemyeon-jo to c boncheng gyemyeon-jo. Third, as for the scales, which are used in the jinyangjo of Seong Geum-ryeon school's gayageum sanjo: In case of u-jo movement, e, a, d, and g boncheng gyemyeon scales have the characteristic of u-jo vocal sound but they consist of mi scale, namely gyemyeon-jo scale. In case of B^(♭) u-jo melody, it consists of sol scale, namely u-jo scale. In case of pyeong-jo melody, G boncheng pyeong-jo consists of re scale. In case of gyemyeon movement, g, d and c boncheng gyemyeon-jos identically consist of mi scale, namely gyemyeon-jo scale.
