언어발달 수준에 따른 만 2세 반 두 영아의 놀이특성 사례연구 A case study on the linguistic development-based play characteristics of two toddlers' in their two-year-olds' classroom원문보기

The aim of this study was to examine the linguistic development-based play characteristics of two-year-old toddlers' and the relationship between their linguistic development and play and then provide information to support the linguistic development and play of toddlers. Study participants were two toddlers in their two-year-olds' classroom of who were attending in O childcare center in Dongjak-Gu, Seoul. Of them, one has normal linguistic development, but the other has retardant linguistic development. As a study tool, the investigator used the Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale (PRES) developed by Kim Yeong-tae, Seong Tae-je and Lee Yun-gyeong (2003). The method of study was participatory observation and study was carried out over the period from September to November 2008. And the investigator used copied video tapes and study notes as analytic data in general. Study question-centered findings are as follows: First, 'What is the difference of play pattern between a normal linguistic development toddler and a retardant linguistic development toddler?' Their linguistic development-based play patterns could be examined on the basis of the developmental level of play and the modality of linguistic usage. Their developmental level of play was analyzed on the basis of 'Young children' Developmental Level of Play' developed by Kim Myeong-sun and Seong Ji-hyeon (2002). Study findings show that the toddler of normal linguistic development presents symbolic play level development whereas the toddler of retardant linguistic development presents non-symbolic play level development. As for the linguistic usage, the toddler of normal linguistic development clarifies the situation of play, thus utilizing language and finding the elements of play within the language whereas the toddler of retardant linguistic development expresses his thought in a nonverbal way and pleasantly imitates the words of peers. Second, 'What is the difference of toy utilization between a normal linguistic development toddler and a retardant linguistic development toddler?' Their linguistic development-based play characteristics were presented in the meaning of toy and the modality of relationship among toys. To the toddler of normal linguistic development, a toy is main subject of pretense and he uses it as a medium of bridging mutual relations whereas to the toddler of retardant linguistic development, a toy is the subject of curiosity and exploration and he presents the modality of using it as a means of voluntarily attempting play. In addition, the toddler of normal linguistic development creatively connects the toys of which attributes are different, thus forming the relationship of adding and finding newness whereas the toddler of retardant linguistic development repetitively plays with the toys of which attributes are connected each other, thus forming the lasting relationship with one or two toys. Third, 'What is the difference of characteristics of the interaction with peers between a normal linguistic development toddler and a retardant linguistic development toddler?' As for the two toddlers' characteristics of the interaction with peers, the meaning of peers has to do with the level of linguistic development in the leading of play, the method of interaction when conflicts are taken place during play, and the process of interaction with peers. As for the modality of leading of play, the toddler of normal linguistic development takes the initiative of play by means of directing, defining and suggesting the play whereas the toddler of retardant linguistic development passively adapts himself to the play which is led by peers. As for the method of interaction when conflicts are taken place during play, the toddler of normal linguistic development claims the ownership of toys and presents his feelings with words whereas the toddler of retardant linguistic development presents his intention physically or by shouting. As for the process of interaction with peers, the toddler of normal linguistic development regards peers as the one who helps recreate play whereas the toddler of retardant linguistic development regards peers as the one who is a good model of imitation and as the subject to which he can do an approach run. Study findings show that toddlers play in an appropriate way according to their level of linguistic development. They use language as an important means of play and consolidate the basis of linguistic, perceptive, social and emotional development via play. In this regard, teachers and parents must understand toddlers' characteristics of play and then provide them appropriate play for their development.
