This paper is the work in developing a that predicts Infra-Red signatures from ground objects in the scene by considering spectral surface properties. The spectral radiance received by a remote sensor is consisted of the self-emitted component directly from the target surface, the reflected component of the solar irradiation and the sky irradiation at the object surface, and the scattered component by the atmosphere without ever reaching the object surface. The material surface properties are essential for determining the reflected radiance by solar energy and the self-emitted radiance from the object surface. The thermal information of the objects and their background is essential for understanding the IR signatures characteristics from the scene. The thermal contrast between the objects and the background is then used to obtain their infrared contrast which is the important signatures in identifying the objects. We considered the composite heat transfer modes including conduction, convection and spectral solar irradiation and sky irradiation on the objects within a scene to calculate the surface temperature distribution. The radiative energy components included in the thermal analyses are consisted of the direct and diffuse solar irradiations and sky thermal irradiation, while the thermal conduction within the object is approximated as one-dimensional heat transfer into the depth. The surface temperatures obtained by using the software developed in this study (Silhouette) and a commercial software (SE-Workbench-IR) are computed and compared each other. Results obtained by using the S/W developed in this study (Silhouette) show fairing good agreement with those obtained by the SE-Workbench-IR. The measured diurnal surface temperature variations on the three different test plates facing east, south and west respectively are fairly well compared with the modeled results obtained from the software developed in this study and a commercial software (RadThermIR). Results in a fairly good agreement with the carefully measured surface temperature.
