Aged education needs for the elders to cope with problem actively and to satisfy one's life as a human-being especially in this aging society. Moreover regular literacy, ability to learn, accumulate and apply a store of knowledge, is required for them as a skill to live in this letter-culture society, intelligence-based society, and to adapt and understand the same period which is quickly changing. Literacy education which is teaching letter is not only to read the words but also to read the world, and it's to understand the culture. Literacy is the base of all education and it is basic ability in life of a man. We should give careful consideration the fact that there are so many aged who have problems in reading and writing the letters in both aspect of a life worthy of man and social welfare. Literacy education does not just for read the letters. Through reading the words it helps to fill up one's life, improve one's quality of life. In the long run, it helps to satisfy one's life. The purpose of this study is to confirm the relation between literacy education and life satisfaction of the aged. For the study, document about Literacy education and the life satisfaction of the aged inquires and investigations of the life satisfaction were carried out. To analyze the aged, Literacy education as aged education, and life satisfaction of the aged, this study used 15 of demographic characteristics and 7 of participation factors in the Literacy education. Questionnaires to see how life satisfaction changes according to the participation of literacy education were handed out to the 226 elderly men and women by interview during May 19th to 30th 2008, located in SeoSan city, ChungNam province. 226 of the questionnaires, effective data, were analyzed with the SPSS 12.0 program. The results of this study were as follows: Most of the aged who is participating literacy education in SeoSan city were female, and the average of their age is 72.8. They barely had an opportunity to study-82.3% them-. Many of them are living alone or just with old couples and most of their job was farming. The major factor of participation in literacy education was difficulties in daily life and need of being literacy so they participated by their free will. The education was handled in their living area, and the old didn't pay for it. When the aged was young, they couldn't study because of financial difficulty, the strong social preference for male, and the historical War. Most of them have difficulty in study because of lack learning ability. The biggest change was gaining confidence after they participated in the literacy education. They wanted to study longer and deeper. Comparing by group of the aged who is participating literacy education in SeoSan city, the life satisfaction were high if the age is young, the academic background is high, the health is good and if the person makes money. In addition, the result was high if they are functional illiterate, in higher level, and if they study longer. Most of uneducated didn't have opportunity to study because of financial difficulty. The beginning had difference of religion. The change after participation in literacy education was differing in educational background. The satisfaction of literacy education went up when the length of education hours per week was longer than others. It has strong connection with the need of being literacy. Moreover satisfaction of literacy education was the major factor of the life satisfaction as r=.298 and it has positive relation with the length of education hours per week. The participation of the literacy education contributed to illiterate aged in changes on daily life and promote in the welfare of individuals like gaining confidence, dealing with melancholia, reducing stress. The purpose of social welfare is to improve one's quality of life. The life satisfaction of the aged can be an indicator which tells us realization of social welfare of the older. The standard of illiteracy is elementary scholastic attainment which is compulsory education course. Therefore, Government should expand public infrastructure such as Korean- schools especially for the adults, standard system of the literacy education for the elder and support system for the existing Korean-schools. The opportunity on the education for illiteracy aged people.
