Successive Approximation A/D Converter(SA-A/D Converter)의 C-2C D/A Converter는 단위 커패시터를 사용함으로써 작은 면적을 차지하게 되며, 전체 커패시터간의 매칭율을 향상시킬 수 있게 된다.

Use a A/D Converter of Bio-Chip to convert a Bio-signals into digital signals. The paper designed Successive Approximation Type A/D converter (SA-A/D Converter) a 1.8V 10-bit 1MS/s for Bio-Chips. The proposed SA-A/D converter consist of C-2C capacitor array D/A Converter and SAR (Successive Approximation Register) and Inverter type Comparator for a low power. The C-2C D/A Converter of proposed SA-A/D converter use a unit capacitance. So C-2C D/A Converter has a small area and low power by charge redistribution. And capacitor matching ratio could be highly. This way is suitable for a low power Bio-Chips. The proposed inverter type comparator has a simple movement structure and auto offset cancel theorem. And optimized for its power consumption1. The proposed SA-A/D Converter power consumption is 0.5mW from a 1.8-V supply voltage and has a INL of +0.3LSB, -0.7LSB and DNL of +0.3LSB, -0.4LSB. The SA-ADC is implemented in a 0.18㎛ CMOS technology.
This paper proposed the 10-bit CMOS digital to analog converter (DAC) with 1MS/s and 1.8V power supply with 0.18㎛ CMOS process. Body stimulation and medical treatment system require a low power system with a small chip area and high linearity for portable device. The proposed D/A converter use two 5-bit binary-weighted current array, two amplifier, 3 CMOS transistor and 7 resistor for small chip area. The 10bit digital signals divided into two part 5bit LSBs and 5bit MSBs. These signals converted by two binary-weighted current array into Vfine and Vcoarse. At this time, Vcoarse signal is 4 times larger than Vfine signal by resistor size of binary-weighted current cell. Vfine and Vcoarse signals changed current signals by V-I converter. In this time, Vcoarse signal was amplified 8 times lager then Vfine by resistor size. At last, after V-I converter stage, Vfine and Vcoarse are made one by current mirror circuit. In current mirror circuit, Vcoarse signal was amplified 32 times lager then 1LSB's amplitude by W/L ratio. As low resolution signals was amplified by high linear circuits, the proposed D/A converter has high linearity. And proposed D/A converter has only two binary-weighted current cell, two amplifiers and three CMOS transistors, seven resistors. So proposed D/A converter is low power and small area than segmented D/A converter in high resolution. Proposed D/A converter was verified a HSPICE simulator with 0.18㎛ CMOS Process. In simulation results, both DNL and INL are below the 0.1 LSB. Power dissipation with 1.8V supply is 1.2㎽ at 1MS/s conversion rate. The active core area is 0.15㎟.
